At first I was just going to email Jack Daniels directly, but I want to hear from others who might have some input as well. Next week I'll start running again after my metatarsal stress fracture. With my propensity for injuries, I'm pretty much starting from scratch this time. I'm going to do something like what jaguar1 did, start with 10 mpw the first month running every other day, 20 the second running 2 days on/1 day off, 30 the third running 3 days on/1 day off, etc. of all easy base running for about 6-7 months (60-70 mpw) until I'm able to run 6-7 days a week. Then if all goes well, I'd like to start training for my first marathon (not sure which one yet, but probably sometime at the end of next year or beginning of '08). I'd like to run somewhere in the 3:15-3:30 range. Anyway, I think I will try the "Marathon Training Plan A" in Daniels' Running Formula. So if I start at 70 mpw as my last few weeks of base, 100 mpw would be the highest. Is that too much? I really believe that high mileage will make me faster, especially for a marathon, as long as I force myself to run easy enough on easy days and stay uninjured. The highest mileage I've done before was 75-80, but that was a couple of years ago when I was racing track 3k-5k. Also I was wondering when I should start doing a long run each week. I believe Daniels suggests doing 25% of weekly mileage for long runs, but he doesn't have them listed until weeks 4-6 of the plan. Obviously, next week when I run 10 miles for the week starting back I won't have a long run, but shouldn't I do one as my mileage increases so I'm not just running the same distance every single day? On weeks 1-3 of the plan, it just says 7 days of 30 min E pace (then the long run starts at weeks 4-6), but hopefully I'll be running more than that at that point. Another thing...singles or doubles? If I run doubles, when should I start doing those? I would think that singles would be more beneficial, but I can imagine there will be times when it will be impossible to schedule a single long run most days of the week. I don't know if any of this is making sense to anyone as I am rambling, but thanks to anyone who can help.
