Webb accomplished his goal this year with an American Record.
Next year his goal will be the Olympic Gold medal.
Who wants a WC Gold when you can have an Olympic Gold the next year?
What a year Webb had, good job man!

It should say
OSAKA, Japan: "Kenya-born US CITIZEN" Bernard Lagat won the 1,500-meters gold medal Wednesday, representing the United States in a world championships final for the first time.
Frank shorter is not US born either, you dumba**!
'Who wants a WC Gold when you can have an Olympic Gold the next year?'
Is this a joke? You think he didn't want the WC gold? Just because he ran 3.30 this year you think he is the best guy?Well, he obviously is NOT. I mean, how can you say that, this guy just finished 8th at worlds. Come on, I know he ran well this season, but just accept the fact that he ran crap and move on with your life.
You can't compare Shorter and Lagat. Shorter was born an American citizen - again I repeat, BORN AN AMERICAN CITIZEN!
Great race for Lagat a hard worker and proud American! Congrats to him, she showed an ability to focus on a single race / goal and peak when it counted most. He looked effortless through the rounds and was able to take the gold as a result of focused training - bravo!
El-G's two golds didn't come easy he had some hiccups .
The WC's is a B race anyway, better to do your learning there.El-G took his lumps in the Olympics.
If Webb gets a Olympic Gold none of this will matter it might even look "brill".
Webbs WC race weren't as bad as the Pre 2 mile or the indoor race he spazed out against Buster and Lagat.
Webb did some great stuff this year and he grew.
This final wasn't a Webb spaz out.
He should take a month off and crush beer cans on his head.
Then get back at it but don't overtrain. El-G lost to Negy [?] by overtraining.
Spoken like a true Letsrun fvcktard!

Yeah, I'm sure that on the final home stretch, Webb decided he'd rather have Olympic Gold and therefore not try and win a WC Gold...that must have been it.
Some of you are such assholes, the guy was obviously half-joking;he has a point anyway Oly Gold far outweighs WC. This doesn't mean Webb "decided on the last turn" to sandbag it. You guys are such nitpicky little basterds, it's incredible.
Actually, I doubt that Webb would concur that he accomplished his goals at the WC. But this isn't cause for despair or a reason to be negative. He put himself in position in this race - just didn't have it. And more to the point, he clearly established himself as a world class runner this year. Good for him.
He has a much lesser challenge than our 10k runners for example - their world level competition is so absurdly fast it is difficult to see how they will close the gap. And merely hopping to the marathon may not be an answer - a cruel and uneven event if there ever was one.
Posters on this board often seek an overly dramatic or negative conclusion - particularly because they envy the success of others - but reality is often less dramatic, and should compel fair analysis, rather than a perpetual sky is falling or someone is lousy stream of invective.
let's start with the Webb saving himself for Zurich.
Don't forget that Webb also achieved his goal of growing some more hair to fill out his balding pate. I mean really, when the fast legs are gone, the AR broken again, Webb will still have his dashing good looks. Records are made to be broken, the hair...that's hair to stay
Webb is an idiot.. He is arrogant and naive beyond belief. He has everything out of proportion and judges a successful season by getting an american record and his best performance on a low key meet in Belgium. He ran very arrogantly in his semi and does not respect the ability of his fellow athletes. At this level you cannot afford tactical naiveity or mistakes and Webb did both this in his semi and his final. On the start line for the final he was acting like El G used to with all the smiles and jogging about like it was a low key collegiate race. The difference being that EL G had a world record and a massive unbeaten streak to boot... Other top level runners have distain for Webbs lack of understanding for their fellow competitors.. Did not Michael East complain that in a call room Webb would scream and sing air guitar.
Typical arrogant, insular american who can't look beyond his own country or his own country's records. Until he gets out of this mentalilty (and the "I want to be the best since Steve "I never won anything anyway" Prefontaine" ideal) then he won't achieve anything on the world stage. I thought he actually looked short of pace at the end... as he did in his semi..
Listen Brit, some of us Yanks are getting attacked for a reasonable and fair critique of Alan. He failed this year; didn't achieve his goal, as it was a "colossal breakdown" in his own words. He has a lot to learn in championship racing.
But you know what-
1. Shut your British trap and go analyze the great middle distance team from Britain. Your American jealousy is transparent.
2. Alan Webb has more talent than any native European male today, middle distance or distance.
3. When he wins his first championship meet, and he will, I expect you to apologize to all of us in America.
"Who wants a WC Gold when you can have an Olympic Gold the next year?"
Oh well now that I know it was a choice between the 2 I don't feel so bad for him. They are just going to give him gold next year. Must be nice to know he won't have any pressure. Hell why even train if he can HAVE an Olympic gold?
He still beat all the Brits in the race though...

I don't think he's more talented than Borza.
Here I wrote a C++ program

Then: About 10 others including Lagat must not be running
