Will we see one broken in Osaka?

If Wariner broke the 400WR, I wouldn't be surprised at all! He'll run 42.98 one day.
However, we won't see a M800m or M200m or W800m or W400m anytime soon.
W3000m Steeple and W Pole Vault are very young, of course, and very vulnerable to WRs.
he is not going to run .33 faster after rounds

Agree about the steeple; disagree about the pole vault.

Possibly not, but if memory serves me correctly, Johnson did run his 19.32 in his final race after all the rounds of the 400 and the 200 at Atlanta.
I think it's safe to say it won't be a distance record.
i cant see the 5k or 10k falling anytime soon. probably not the 800 either. heck, theyre all too fast to get broke...but then again...
I am guessing either the 400, by Wariner in Osaka, or the 100 meters.
The weather will be warm, and the track is supposed to be lightning fast. Japanese engineers have developed a new material that is supposed to be great for both sprinters and distance runners.
I think that Haile G could finally get the marathon record in Berlin this year if the weather cooperates.

I'm not sure about women's records, but on the men's side the M-100m will be the next to fall. The M-400m is vulnerable as well.
The men's high jump record is never really talked about. But you know that record will be around for many years to come.
Well it was after all Michael Johnson himself.
We definitely won't be seeing any distance WRs in Osaka.
I agree that Geb and the marathon record could very well happen this fall.
Bekele is probably in good enough shape to break his 5000 and 10000 WRs judging by his impressive 3000s and his solo 12:48 in adverse conditions. I just don't know if he'll have any WR chances until next spring.
Assuming they do the seedings right, Wariner won't face anyone who can run within 1-2 seconds of him until the final. The most he'll have to worry about would be someone like Chambers or Larry. So, he should not be extended at all, and he doesn't have to hold anything back in the final. MJ actually had a 400 semi in Atlanta that might have been the WR, but he had the 200 to worry about, so he shut it down early: Wariner doesn't have to worry about this. Lets just hope it doesn't rain for the final.
Wariner's camp IS clear about the record this year, so if it doesn't happen in Osaka, it peobably comes down at Zurich.
I'm going to go with these as possibilities...
Women's Pole Vault
Men's 100m
Men's 110m Hurdles
Women's 5000m
Women's 4x400m relay
Men's 400m
I think the women's steeple, women's pole vault and I think Wariner will get the 400 record.
I am surprised that the women's world record has stood since 1988. It was a great race in the '88 Olympics but didn't figure it would be able to hold up for close to 20 years.

Good list. Does anyone think that Tirunesh Dibaba might ultimately threaten Junxia's 10,000m record?
The Special Olympics Mile record, currently at 4:27, held by the430miler...
I didn't think those Chinese WRs would be broken anytime soon but if there is a runner that has a shot, it would be Tirunesh Dibaba.
who says he has to do it in the final? besides MJ did.
