last year i had a 6 week "base phase" peaking at 27 mpw with a long run of 9 miles (i wasnt the smartest trainer). went into the season held back by a coach who believes in "pack running" in practice and thus rarely exceeding 7 min miles and possibly 30 mpw (im not too fond of my coach...). This year is my senior year and i will no longer have to put up with his crud. i plan on running at least 50 mile weeks with 12-15 mile long runs. unfortunately, the whole season is going to be my base phase cuz i never was able to log a single mile this summer. assuming i run intelligent, starting out at a good 35 miles per week(slow pace though) and working up from there to a solid 50 holding (on average) 6.30 min. miles, what can i expect? i know i cant get my hopes up, but i ran a 17:17 last year. can i get back? my base was pretty much worthless last year, so im hoping that by mid october i can break 17. thats only 2 months, but is it possible?
