I've noticed many elites have really skinny quads. How do their legs get that skinny. I run 70-80 mpw with 16-19 mile long runs, and my quads are as big as trees.

what kind of trees? I've seen lots of elites with big quads. we tend to focus on those with things that we don't have. just try to get good at running because trying to change your body type is going to take a long time and it's useless if it doesn't coincide with good, smart training and decent nutrition. so josh mcadams is a great example. believe me, if you see this guy, he looks nothing like a great steeplechaser. he's short and freakin jacked and strong all over. huge legs, huge arms. the "typical" steepler, i guess, is thin and tall and springy. solinsky, bob kennedy, todd williams, even bekele, these guys aren't rail thin in the legs. i hope i'm not talking down to you, i have similar thoughts in my head... i feel like i'm a fat ass half the time.
my final advice: every time you sense yourself getting down on your body type or a particular body part, instead of saying, "if only i had etc. etc" say, "man, my legs are awesome and strong" or "my god i'm such a beast, if i keep training well i'll accomplish my goals" positive self-talk! go get 'em!
dude I feel ya, I have huge calves, like a lot bigger than most runners, but it really doesn't matter anyway, just like the above poster said. in running you've got what you've got and there's not much you can do about it, so just train hard and do what you can with it.
