AT&T Regrets Censoring Pearl Jam's Anti-Bush Lyrics
Company Cuts 2 Lines During Band's Webcast Performance
SAN ANTONIO -- AT&T admits it should not have censored a Webcast of a Pearl Jam's concert in which they criticized President George W. Bush.
AT&T's Blue Room site carried a Webcast of Pearl Jam's performance at Lollapalooza in Chicago on Sunday, but it was shown on delay so AT&T could bleep it for profanity or nudity.
However, monitors hired by AT&T through a vendor cut two lines from Pearl Jam's rendition of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall."
One line was, "George Bush, leave this world alone," and another was "George Bush, find yourself another home," according to the band.
AT&T spokesman Michael Coe says the censoring was a mistake and the company is working with the vendor that produces the Webcasts to avoid future misunderstandings.
