great article
Wow. A good article on espn about something other than football, basketball, or baseball. Not that those are always good, but their coverage of our sport has been terrible the past few years. This is a welcome change.
How can anybody not like this guy?
He don't look like me
Pretty good. He really does seem like agreat guy. But I have a hard time getting over how this grateful American ran for Kenya in the 2004 games months after becoming an American citizen.
Well, for starters: he scares elk for fun.
No telling what he would do to caribou.
But I have a hard time getting over how this grateful American ran for Kenya in the 2004 games months after becoming an American citizen.
I thought the same thing. He talks proudly about being an American, then ran and represented another nation AFTER TAKING AN OATH. Actions always speak louder than words.
what would you do if you were in his situation?
being proud to be an American does not mean he has to denounce his Kenyan roots.
i have no problem with his actions. he is a great guy.
His wife looks pretty hot... good taste!
Maybe just maybe he felt obligated to run for Kenya since the 2004 Games were around the corner. Kenya was counting on him and he didn't want to let them down or whatever. It would be like you running for your University and right before Nationals you decide you are going to turn Pro and say goodluck trying to win Nationals without my points. In his case it would be worse. It would be like qualifying to Nationals for one school and then running for another school against your old school.
You all forget that he could not compete for the US in Athens. It was Kenya or nothing...
"Alan is that kid jogging with his father. Manzano came up through the high school and college ranks. And of course, Bernard immigrated here and made a better life. What's more American than that?"
Good line. And I agree, that his prime year, if he didn't run for Kenya, he wasn't running at the Olympics.
that *was* his prime year
