Looks like it was done just for Alan.
Lukezic will be lucky if he can run 400 meters at Webb's pace.

deelnemerslijst hoofdprogramma!!!
Ritz is in the 5000, which Dobson will rabbit about 90 minutes after he races a 1500.
FTW
Thanks for the vote of confidence--the mile was added just for Webb

Not if it is from Walt Murphy.
Is Webb a big attraction outside of the US? Just an honest question I was wondering the answer to.
He's a pretty big name for a meet like this. He is the world leader, after all. And it doesn't hurt to keep Nike happy.
Looks like there are more Americans in this meet than any other country, at least in the A and B heats. This is a meet that should be shown on US television.
Any word on whether Sportnet will show it on line. The Sportnet web-site hasn't been updated in ages.
It's gonna be tough to bag the record w/o any serious competition. At this point in time, I see Lukezic and Fountain as 3:35 guys.
It'd be nice if Nike could jet in Willis and a 3:32 Kenyan. Then we'd have something.
I think the Belgians will be thrilled with this. A world leader and white guy going for a record, this will be a boon for the meet organizers.

Reebok may object to Nike flying in Willis.
Webb should have ran the mile at Pre.
We was scheduled to run the mile but switched to the 2 mile a few days or so before which didn't work out so well.
You only get so many opportunities to run a fast mile and that is one that he passed up.

Too early.
Webb ran a negative split 3:52 victory over a world class field the week before Pre and a solo 3:51 5 weeks before Pre.
The winning time at Pre was 3:48.28.
It was not too early.
Given how he ran in the 2-mile that day, it's hard to believe he would have set an AR in the mile.

what would willis add? he's out of shape (because of an earlier injury) this year, and would be lucky to finish within 5sec of webb if he got the record. kipchirchir komen would be a great addition, like the poor man's version of adding Ngeny to El G's WR mile attempt.

absolutely! even though many won't publicly say it, the crowds want to see a break in the african dominance of middle- and long-distance races. meet directors are pretty clear with their language when signing athletes to run meets: they want the fastest white guys possible in the race. even in european countries where americans are personae non gratae, they love seeing a guy who LOOKS "european" beating africans. a 1:46 800m friend of mine (who is black) was told this, in no uncertain terms, by a director of a british meet a few years ago. the MD was apologetic, but quite insistent that there was nothing he could do. my friend was denied a spot, but 2 russians and a frenchman (all white) were given spots despite having slower PRs than my friend... and they requested spots AFTER my friend.

Yeah, well a true story, unlike yours, is two friends of mine, both European, have told me that positive drug tests for black Africans are tossed out the window by officials with the 'official' excuse being these are poor people who are trying to feed large families and they come from poor countries trying to rise up from third world poverty.
Of course, none of it as bad as American Immigration, where a highly skilled European has a slim chance of entering the US, while a Somalian with a criminal record and no schooling is put to the front of the line. Why is that, eh?

Complete and utter bullshit. Produce the goods.
He will get this record one day. I think he can get down to 3:28 3:46
I am not sure if Alan will get it this time though.. given his up and down racing.
I admire that he is racing.. and keeping the competitive edge.. up. If he looses or fails.. he has motivation to try harder. he has shown that he can come back and fight.
If he wins and succeds he has more confidence in himself.
Way to go alan webb!!!
His 3:30.55 is already close to a 3:47 mile. He probably needs to go through the 1200 in about 2:49 or less, which he has done already.
To bad Lukezic and Myers are off this year. It would be a great year for US mile running.
