Advice for needed/taking time off...

    Okay here's the deal...I had built up a pretty good base (80mpw) over the last 8 weeks and just started to hit the speed stuff...Just off the base stuff I'm in about 54:00 15k shape(not that great I know) Well, I have to have my wisdom teeth pulled and I'm currently battling a cold...I'm also traveling to 9000' of altitude for a week and half (from sea level)...How do I juggle all of these things without losing my fitness? Just thought I'd see what some of you guys say...I know other people have dealt with things like this before...Thanks!!

    Agreed with the poster above - run when you can. And don't sweat it when you can't.

    My experience: base miles take far longer to kick in than speedwork, but they also stay with you far longer. Sure it'd be better if you had no interruptions but you'll still be fine. Might even find yourself running workouts a bit faster at first for being well rested.

    I laid down a couple months of my solidest base to date in late winter, then abruptly cut way the hell back due to injury and life events. It was shocking how well (for me) I was running a few months later and even still, off relatively half-assed inconsistent training and little to no serious workouts.
