Had a decent week, but somewhere around 40 miles with no long runs and a scheduled day off. Had some mental anxiety about the Boilermaker on Friday, so I did 4 miles at my anticipated race pace of ~6:00. Probably not the wisest move, but I had only done faster or slower stuff recently and wanted to see if I could handle the pace. It felt pretty good, so no harm done (I think).
Boilermaker went pretty well, not an A+ effort but about what I expected from a pretty lean cardio base for racing a 15k. Hit the 10k in 37:18, right on target, but was slowed by a couple of hills and finished just below 56:30. Beat my 2006 time by nearly 2 minutes and got me into the top 200 - 15th master compared to 32nd last year. Top five master men were:
17 El Arbi Khattabi 40 47:23 5:06
20 Paul Mwangi 40 47:38 5:07
24 Dennis Simonaitis 45 48:08 5:10
27 Gideon Mutisya 40 48:42 5:14
68 James Derick 41 51:50 5:34
Firaya Sultanova won the women's master division handily. I thought Michelle S. was also supposed to run, but I didn't see her name in the results. It was nice meeting chefdrp and Jim Fiore.
I see that tracklover and Spikez have registered for Orono - anyone else?
