Isn't Webb cashing in right now from his hard distance focus from last year?
That's a very interesting thought; it brings to mind the front page quote the other day by Terance Mcmahon (sp) about how Hall spent 4 years at Stanford just putting money in the bank & preparing himself for future sucess without getting much attentin or having any breakthroughs for awhile. Perhaps in the big scheme of things, Webb sacrificed any great mile racing last years to simply puting in a ton of miles & focus on strenght/aroebic development. So while it enabled him to run a great 10K, he wasn't able to reap the bnefits of all that training until now cause he hadn't done the proper speedwork.
I've even experienced this on some level myself. Last year in XC I tried puttingn in huge miles & it caught up with me; anemia & overtraining eneded my season early. However, after a short break I was quickly able to get into the best shape of my life for indoor (with a little less milage of course), that was no doubt a result of the huge base I had put in during the fall that cost me any direct racing sucess then.
So in short its possible that Webb sacrificed any good racing last summer in order to develop more, and we may be seeing the results right now.
he'll be faster.
why don't you get that becoming a 3:30 guy this year has helped his chances for next year?
