Before reading on, keep in mind that I'm just your average 26 year old runner. I was a 1:59 800m guy in high school, ended up running at a small D2 school. Just doing road races to keep in shape and to compete.
On May 20th I ran my first half marathon in 1:19, I've never raced anything over a 5k prior to this. I ran the race in the New Balance 152. Anyways, I took a day off after the race and did a 7 miler the next day. Well needless to say I think I received a stress fracture on the left side of my left foot, but an x-ray showed nothing.
I took about a month off and eased back into my running. I ran a 5k about a week ago in 17:22, off about four training runs. I was pain free so this past week I did a 4x1200 workout followed by a 5k tempo a couple days later. Well yesterday after a 7 mile run I started getting the same pain on the left side of my foot.
During my pain free couple of weeks I pre-registered for a couple of road races. My question is, will taking today and tomorrow off from running to rest my foot effect my race on the 4th of July (5 mile race). And also, any opinions on my injury since the x-ray came up negative. The doctor told me to use a hot tub for my foot, but I've also heard to ice it. Any help from the letsrun.com readers would be lots of help!
