I heard that Dana Carvey once beat Pre in a high School all comers meet.
Pretty cool.
Makes you wonder might might have been had he chosen another path.

Dana Carvey, born April 2, 1955 in Missoula, Montana
Prefontaine, born January 25, 1951.
Obviously, your facts are incorrect

I heard that too. I thought it was some sort of race put on where anyone could enter, not an official high School meet. I thought it was in Cali.
One was a senior the other a freshman. Other than the usual letsrun "suck pre's cock" reaction, why are you so sure it's incorrect?
Dana Carvey was something like a 4:3x miler at his best. Safe to say he was not at his best as a freshman.
Steve Prefontaine was an 8:41 2 miler as a senior.
Carvey was not on Prefontaine's PLANET in terms of talent. A freshman Dana Carvey did not beat a senior Steven Prefontaine.
How do these ridiculous rumors get started anyway?
because i have a book that lists all of Pre's races and he didn't lose as a senior in hs competition and the races he did lose outside of it he ran in the low 14s high 13s for the 5k
This is silly and jejune

So you carry this book around with you so you can defend his honor 24 hours a day?
What good are facts. They can be used to prove anything that's even remotely true!
I heard that when Dana Carvey beat Pre, he was running backwards, wearing a pink bonnet, and conducting an orchestra conducting Beethoven's Seventh on a revolving platform in the center of the track.

Yanqui, I commend you for brightening my day with your use of this word. Bravo!

You know, that's pretty simple basic fact about Prefontaine. Not exactly hard to remember. I've heard it a few times before myself.
There is a bit of truthiness in the idea that Dana Carvey beat Pre in HS. I believe it in my heart, so it must be true. Don't ever let facts get in your way, kids.
Easy guys. Get off your knees and wipe your mouths off, I promise I won't question anything about pre again.
I'll go drink a 12 pack now and go for a drive.

lol
However you cut it, Dana Carvey was one fast mutha!
He was like a 4:12 miler when they ran the mile and not 1500/1600 and ran low 9s for the 2 mile.
Fast dude.

Kid, I understand the temptation to dismiss opposing arguments with snippy comments like that but it doesn't help much. It just adds noise.
Painting everyone who contradicts you as some sort of "Pre-sycophant" might make you feel better but it's also pretty silly. Part of growing up is learning to resist such infantile impulses.
Sometimes, people are just interested in accuracy.
who's pre?

He was before your time.

Was that meant for the other poster or the entire community on the letsrun message board?
It was meant for the kid to whom I was replying.
