Kennedy Mutai from the Rift Valley ran a sub-31 minute 10,000 metres race to win his speciality at the National Primary Schools? Athletics Championships at the Mombasa Municipal Stadium yesterday.
Mutai, who clocked 30 minutes and one second, ran shoulder to shoulder from the start with Martin Kimei and Gilbert Kipkoskei, both of Western Province, Nyanza?s Geoffrey Burudi and his team mate Samwel Nyarwa before he and Kimei broke away.
With 100 metres to go, Mutai outsprinted Kimei to book a ticket to the national trials for the World Junior Championships which will be held at the Moi International Centre, Kasarani, on June 12 and 13.
