I'm returning to running after an injury layoff. During the injured time I cross trained on the various elliptical machines (Precor 546, Life Fitness with the moving arm handles). I'm gradually adding running back in hoping to phase into running and off the ellipticals. Kind of a confusing question, do I need to run as many minutes to get the same workout as on an elliptical? I'm thinking I get more bang for my buck running. In other words, if I was doing 54 minutes on the elliptical and I'm up to 20 running, do I have to do the remaining 34 on the elliptical to get the same amount of benefit out of my 54 minutes? Hope this makes sense. I know better than to trust the "calories burned" things on the machines. Thanks for any comparisons you can give me.
