Oh I see what you did there.
Did you just figure this out?
I love how people just assume all of these things are going on at Oregon. They are just another program with a couple talented guys. There isn't anything that goes on at Oregon that doesn't go on at Arkansas or LSU. Nike or no Nike, the kids still have to go out and run. It isn't like they are winning National Titles every year with 80 points. They struggle to win PAC-10 titles. If anything, it is cool that track is so glorified there. If the track program there was in the shitter, you'd post something along the lines of:
Oregon program sucks. Discuss.
What would make you happy? Honestly. Probably you getting a scholarship there or being called an alum. You'd give away a nut to be able to train under Salad Bar for a week, so quit being a smack.
Seriously, what do the OP and others like him want? Do you people want the sport to go unfunded? Do you people want all sports in America to go unfunded? Should the NCAA go to just football/basketball and a bunch of terrible women's sports? Like them or hate them, Nike puts more money into more colleges than any other sponsor. Nike sponsors more athletes than any other company. All you people have nothing to complain about.
How about that rumor of Phil Knight's meltdown at the twilight meet? How about their best guy not living in town and training with Olympians being coached by a famous athlete though suspected of doping?Does any other school have that many threads on this board? How about the football team having an insane locker room and 11 differnet uniforms? Miami has got a better tradition and crap facilities. There is no benfit from being the alma mater of P Knight?

If Oregon was Oklahoma, Texas or Bama with that level of booster interference they'd be banned from competition for the next 20 years.
Something stinks really bad in Oregon.

1) It's a rumor and there hasn't been any evidence supporting this.
2) People commute to school all the time. As long as he's registered for classes, which he is, how/who he trains with does not matter to anyone besides Vin. The NCAA knows how Rupp trains and isn't stopping it or even caring because he and Oregon are free to do what they want.
3) Colorado/Wisconsin have had huge amounts of thread about them. Same with Michigan. Number of threads has nothing to do with anything besides people being jealous/having nothing better to do.
4) It helps to have rich alumni, that's not exactly a secret. Why do you think the Ivy League schools are so well off? I goto U of I and we recently got the Siebel Center, donated to the school by billionaire alumnus Thomas M Siebel. Alumni can give to whatever part of the school they want. Knight prefers to give his money to athletics.
Are you joking me saying Miami has crap facilities; have you ever seen Miamis facilites they are pretty nice! They may not be what UofO has, but there are a lot of schools that do have similar facilities to UofO. ie U of Wash, U of Michigan, Arkansas, UCLA, I could go on for a long time and I have not even visited a lot of the mid west and souther schools with rediculous facilities. UT Austin also has amazing facilities. And FYI Rupp has lived and trained in Eugene for atleast the last year.
Nike gives money to a ton of schools, a lot of people are suspected of doping or taking steroids and what not especially in football, and baseball of well.
NY runner I'm guessing you have failed at about every thing yo uhave done in life. Your arguement skills are what I base that off of. You take assumptions try to use them as fact then when someone uses evidence to show yo uare wrong or atleast off base you either call them a Nike tool or try to make reference to them being high schoolers because only high schoolers like Nike. But by the way you argue and present your points you are the one who looks like a tool and your arguements are sub high school.
Have they won a National Championship in any sport lately?
Just think what the schools that are must be getting!!!
What is wrong with you people, I am so tired of reading threads about Nike sucks, Oregon sucks, etc. And then reading threads with probably the same people saying VIC administration sucks, Ohio U's AD sucks, etc.
You can’t have it both ways. In Oregon there are people with deep pockets who care about track.
We should all be so blessed but I sit back and watch and cheer for the Ducks, because some day I hope that someone with deep pockets in my backyard will help support my alma matta. I know I will go on making my donations and do everything I can to help further our sport.
As cold as it may sound I loved the fact that Martin Smith was let go because it showed a passion for the sport on the level of a big time football or basketball program.
If you don’t like Oregon, great root for Stanford or Cal or USC or Boise State or Wisco or ….
But there is no point in getting mad at people who are putting resources into our sport; I wish there were a million Phil Knights out there. Track would be as lucrative as NASCAR.

I did a track training camp at UofMiami.
The practice football field was like a putting green. The facilities there are top notch. THey get a lot of money in from football. So does USC.
I agree that it is weird people are complaining about good facilities!
Quoted for truth (I hate that line, but this sentiment can't be reiterated enough!).
I don't care about Oregon or Nike, but I love track/xc. I'm glad somebody is putting as much money as possible into the sport. I wish I had the means to do the same.
This stuff goes on everywhere, you just don't always hear about it or care about it if it isn't "your" school.
More recently, T. Boone Pickens has focused his energy on his alma mater, the Stillwater campus of Oklahoma State University (OSU). Through his tax-deductible contributions, Pickens has spearheaded an effort to create an athletic village just north of the existing campus. In order to do so, hundreds of homes were purchased by the OSU administration using Pickens' contributions. As a result, Oklahoma State will have world-class athletic facilities. Pickens' gift remains the largest donation to a university's athletic program in collegiate history. His total contributions to OSU come to over $290 million dollars. Over $265 million, or 92%, of his donations have been towards athletics. Pickens also has made substantial academic gifts to Oklahoma State University, particularly to the School of Geology, which is named for him.
Mr Knight also gives money to other parts of the University. Perhaps not lately, but you should see the Knight Law Building as well as the library. The library had a renovation, but the Knight Law Building was constructed about 7 years ago. Beautiful. Also, some fail to realize that roughly the amount Phil has given to the U of O over the years was given in a lump sum to Stanford last year or the year before (about 105 million). He received his MBA from Stanford - working on ideas that would lead to Nike. Like any other alumni, he would like to see his alma mater succeed. Why not give to your alma mater, especially if it helps fund a sport that the University still loses money on funding every year?
So if some kid fails the bar does Knight have a meltdown?
Does he get that pissed if someone on scholarship drops out of school like those puh c's did last night?
Does he have the right to fire the dean of the law school if he doesn't like the average LSAT scores of the in comming class?
If he does, I'd stop hating.
something is rotten in the state of oregon

1) There has been NO EVIDENCE that it happened. A random anonymous internet poster stated this and you are using it as gospel. He could have (and probably was!) in his parents basement in New Jersey when the meet happened and decided to post something stupid just to see if people would believe it. Until there is a video or numerous posters with Oregon ip addresses agreeing with that poster it's just a rumor. That you would believe a random anonymous poster on the internet is scary and says a lot about you.
2) What??? See #1
3) Knight never fired anyone. Boosters do this all the time (ALL THE TIME!). Boosters have ever right to complain about a product that they do not agree with. Boosters give huge chunks of money to schools and they expect success (that's capitalism). Knight didn't fire Smith, the AD did. If the AD wanted to, he could have kept Smith and told Knight to go to hell. Your problem is with the AD.
Also, athletics are slightly different than academics. However, in both, Knight has ever right to pull funds if he does not agree with the way the law school is handling itself. Knight is generously giving his money and he can cut off the funds to any and everything anytime he wants.
NY Runner, you're just silly. You have no idea what you're talking about and you bring nothing to the table. Not to mention (and I really can't reiterate this enough), you are willing to believe any random piece of sh*t thing that fits your ideas, even if there is ZERO evidence to prove it true. Hate Knight all you want, but he gives back a heck of a lot more to the sport/society than you do.
