What?? I can't see how anyone could dream up of any improvements for Letsrun.
And Chili's is cool. It doesn't get any better than an All-American burger, fries and Dr. Pepper.

It's the lack of elites willing to come on here and post that is the most annoying. Not that I blame them. I agree with registration. Not everyone has to know your real name and your email necessarily just to post. But as long as you need a registered log-in to post and can only post under that log-in, it would be much better. No need to register to view, just to post. I don't understand why the Brojos don't do that. This is a great site they have up and a great service. It is just a shame that a few dipshit trolls have to hold it back.
Making people register isn't going to hurt site traffic. Most people just lurk anyways. Perhaps a few of the pimply immature types who just love to lash out or make a scene (whether they be 14 or 54) might not be here as much, but that would more than be made up for by people drawn to the higher level of quality. I wonder if either of the Brojos are reading this thread.
JEH,
I agree with you on your assessment of Chili's. Is it gourmet? Not by a long-shot. However, I think it is decent food at a very reasonable price. And Dr. Pepper is the best. Although, Chili's on prom night probably isn't going to win you over any points with your date.

Required e-mail registration in order to post on the message board would improve the quality of the site's message board content immensely.
In addition to registration perhaps there could be 2 or more separate Letsrun boards:
Highschool Running Message Board
Formal Discussion Message Board
And for the hey of it, why not a 3rd board that DOESN'T require email registration:
The A-Good-Place-to-Unwind Message Board
I agree that the lack of elites is most bothersome. I remember back in the day when elites like Marius, Sully, and The Doc, among others would post quite frequently. Now, The Doc never posts, Marius just recently posted for the first time in a long while, and Sully only posts when the Warhurst/Brannen/Willis bashing commences. Even the Brojos hardly post, as I think they also are frustrated by some of the trolls, as is especially clear with some of Rojo's posts. I think a lot of runners, both young and old would greatly benefit from their knowledge. Also, in how many other sports are people given the opportunity to correspond with the elite athletes. Do you think NBA, MLB, or NFL athletes would ever go on a messageboard to share ideas and experiences with aspiring young athletes, or just fans of the sport/athletes. I think that we have a great opportunity with our sport seeing how we're generally a smaller community of fans and serious participants and runners tend to have a great sense of camraderie.
I'm all for the registering. I used to come on this sight all the time and find a bunch of threads that I really wanted to read. Now I find very few interesting threads. Gone with the trolls!!
You can see the pattern. There have been other websites before Letsrun that were great for a while, had good elite participation, tons of informative threads, etc. However, eventually word gets out and the trolls come running over from dyestat. As soon as that happens, the place goes to shit, quality posters begin to leave, and eventually the site goes down. tnfmedia was the most immediate predecessor to Letsrun and we all know what happened there. Hopefully the same fate won't befall Letsrun, but I fear that it has become too well known. It is much better when the sites are less mainstream.
If the elites & coaches aren't posting here as frequently as they once did, then where are they posting (if at all)? Any elites/coaches wish to respond to this query?
I agree that Letsrun's message board has become a sort of DyestatLite, but I also think it's pretty stupid to label every teen a slacker. I'm 18, and I've put in 80 miles a week this summer, I know that 1337hax0r has put in 90+ miles a week this summer, a few threads down is one on that kid who ran 31s for 10k, he puts in 80 miles a week. Magness puts in 100+ a week, etc. Some of us teens know that the only magic in distance running is that you get out of it what you put into it (I hope Oprah wasn't really the first to say that). Some of us are trying to get to the next level, and not just hoping that if we run 4x400 in 65, we'll be able to hold that pace for 4 laps.
Sorry to rant, but generalizations such as that piss me off when I know that myself and others are out there everyday, busting their ass.
Hmmm..., the generalization doesn't apply to you. In terms of work ethic, your way beyond a HSer, in general. Keep "busting ass" along with the others you mentioned.
Morceli1978, it is kind of you to try to help the younger guys out. I felt somewhat guilty... trying to trick them into thinking it would be cool to go to Chile's for prom... shame on me.
this is some serious crying. I mean if you want to have a serious discussion have one- the easy thing to do if someone posts something stupid is to IGNORE them. Dont fire back some angry response dont try to be witty just respond to people who respond to u with respect. also what is up with all the HS bashing im know that plenty of the old people say plenty of stupid crap(i am old btw) also. This is a very easy way to have serious training discussion- also many of the serious posts hardly get any responses as far as i can see- respond to them if u want to. Also how old is this site anyway hehehe i think dyestat might have "seniority". The registration idea is a very good one though i wish people had to type in their real names as well!! then u could check their wild claims if u wanted to. anyway fire away on how im a stupid ass- oh one good thing about this site is that u can cuss as much as u want hehehe :):)

I'd be willing to wager that half of the troll like creatures are long out of HS and College.
I wouldn't be surprised. When I said they come running from Dyestat, I didn't mean to imply that they were all HSers. Many of the posters at Dyestat are well above HS age. Its just the same group/type of people who ruin every good running website that I can remember.
I'm a HSer and I heard that this site was a great place to go to get information on training and racing. When I started looking at the boards this winter I found lots of pertinent information from guys like Hadd and Malmo. I left DyeStat for the exact reasons you all speak about and you all are right that this site has turned to shit somewhat. Lots of bashing, porn threads and other bull shit that doesnt have anything to do with the sport. Also, I don't like to lumped in with the status quo teenager. I bust my ass 80 mpw too.
I don't get it wrote:
The irony is that Dyestat is a better place to go if you truly want discussion among track and field fans. It's more a fan site than a training site. I still prefer this place, but if you want to talk about the grand prix meets, dyestat or TFN are much better.
I agree. Portions of DyeStat are bad and rife with trolls (as are portions of LetsRun), but the Elite board always has good discussions, which has seemed to be lacking here for a long while. Personally, I come to LetsRun for training advice and that's it. Trolls hijack every other worthwhile thread, on a scale far greater than the fairly well moderated DyeStat boards. As usual, DyeStat isn't evil and LetsRun isn't a complete waste, but its more of a middle ground between the two.
ATTENTION ALL PUSSIES AND CRYBABIES:
Perhaps this has eluded you due to it's simplicity but here's an idea: START YOUR OWN DAMN BOARD!
Otherwise enjoy what you like, ignore the rest and quit the damn crying. The Brothers can run this any way they want. IT'S THEIR BOARD, NOT YOURS!
Dry your tears now and shut the hell up.
start your own board....
hmmm... I like the sounds of that.
I still get a kick out of some of the stuff that goes on here (look, today somebody dredged up some priceless JK posts - you can't buy stuff like that), but wouldn't it be neat if somebody started a small board just geared toward some serious runners who want to talk with other serious runners, without having to put up with the nutjobs?
What a place that would be...
Mind you, you'd still need to have a Portland Runner, Flagpole Willy, Mr Chest and such to break the monotony.
Anyone? Anyone?
I like the Letsrun message board. There are always good nuggets of info that can be found. But there is a lot of childish crap and you figure out what posts to skip over.
I have found that reporting the posts works well in most cases, someone deletes the post. If more people reported the posts I think it would help clean things up.

you didn't mention me Pete, and I am offended. I can cuss and swear with the little boys as good as anyone.....oh, maybe I need to grow up and find another board too....
To be honest, how many times can one or should one have to post the same training thread? From the perspective of a Hadd, Malmo, or JK, I'd think it must be like going out to coach every day and having to start right back at the beginning every time. I've always felt sorry for the running magazines in that they have to do that on a yearly rotation to get the new subscribers caught up.
I won't bash the Dyestat thing, never having seen it, but I don't necessarily need to read the epiphanies of even 80 mpw high school students on a regular basis.
The things I've enjoyed are the stories of interesting or funny races and workouts, and of course the occasional elite posting. And, I'll admit it, I look at the Hotness threads. Those were actually a kind of positive thing as long as people didn't take it upon themselves to be the ultimate arbiters of "What is beauty."
Nothing against Gallowwalkers, but what Galloway espouses as training and "doing your best" is a load of crap.
I'm going to go find my own damn board, too.
if you guys have been here a while you probably know that Portland Trailblazer is one of the jokers. So maybe he's just joshing with you guys. The Troll with NYSE stock symbol sounded like he wasn't serious at all. Plus letsrun is so addicting he'll be back, they all come back eventually barring some untimely accident that ends their misery. Opps off on a tangent again.
