Don't they have a real good girl distance runner/ She ran a fast 10K somewhere this spring I believe.

man..... high school coaches most of the time don t have a clue about anything track wise or D1 NCAA....its funny how people put famous athletes names on their resume......when in fact most of the time they just happen to be around that athlete and did nothing for their development

I'm gonna have to say, that if Ms. Marcia is the wife of Mr. Wentworth (sp), who works at 'Steeple Timeing,' then any one who calls her a bad person is, infact, a bad person.
(yes it took me this long to make the connection)
I agree 100%. Jeff and Marcia are good people. Too bad some people want to try to cut their legs off.
Seriously, I ran for her, also. She was a poor coach and she hurt a lot of runners. If you talked to someone who ran for her you would hear the same stuff. Lots of talented runners quit. She also had some personal issues that spilled over and were never addressed by the administration. Basically, UCF had been in crappy conferences for many years (TAAC/A-Sun) and they won a lot championships, so she never got fired. Something must have happened if she resigned right before conference.
Unfortunately you have just decribes most D-I coaches as well.
I heard she was going to FSU. She was at a meet in NJ a couple nights ago talking about transfering there.
If it's Rene Plasencia, UCF alum, I can vouch for him being a solid consideration for distance coach.
Problem with UCF is that they have always underperformed with the talent they had.. now, part of the problem is that they had Club Track for so long and Track was not a fully-funded sport. It is now for Women's.
School records, if to be found probably compare favorable with the Univ. of Miami as the worst in the state.
I don't believe UCF has had a Male XC runner sub-25:00 or 31:00 for 8K/10K. Women are a bit better, but probably no sub-35:00 10K runners in their history. Not a great job with so many years on the job, so I sort've agree with UCFAlum in that it's time to move on.
Voknin or Slaven would be an awesome replacement at least for the distance side of things. We all know what Bramen has done w/ FSU.
Jenny Clauson ran 35:41 to win easily at Tennessee this spring. That's good for a freshman.
Are u kidding me????Does this looks competitive to you, considering the location this university has???? I know d3, naia, and d2 schools with better season bests than this.(not mentioning small D1 schools in middle of nowhere..)
...This is UCF 50 000 students in a paradise campus.....How effin hard is to recuit there and coach????
57 their best 400m???? what happenned with sanya richards alike performances:) since he was coaching that in highschool:)
19.2 and 18.5 long jump???at a big florida school????
All coaches got to go.....bring 100% new staff in...capabale and in few years you ll have UCF going against FSU and Florida
Has she even gotten a release? Not that it matters for the Florida school in question.
does anyone else find it sad that these "former ucf runners" are bashing away yet they don't have the guts to put their own names with their comments? if you have the guts, post under your real name.
the website is showing three assistants but does anyone know which of those three is actually in charge?
Well, the reason they don't put there name up is because they don't want anyone to know how really crappy they are as athletes.
Some of these kids want the coach to hold their hand. If the coach doesn't cottle them, they wine until they get a clue-less AD to listen. Sounds the same way here. Not that I want to be a college coach, but if I were at UCF I would cut the team to bare bones and start over. They show they have nothing to complain about because the never site a specific problem, just that they did not like her and the she was a bad coach! Cry Babies are all they are. Also, I hate these pop-up at the bottom of the page. Wejo get rid of them!
Since you all seem to want to bash a group of althletes who were in fact talented and did work hard, let me tell you a couple of things. First when a coach gets stubbling drunk at an airport during a layover (and yes this was on a trip with the women's and men's cross country teams, not a personal one), and procedes to embarass the team by shouting at people to get out of her seat on the plane (by the way she had the wrong seat)and then stuffs her bag in the overhead compartment which breaks the beer can/bottle that she had in it and that leaks on the guys head sitting below it, I'd say that indicates a problem that needs addressing. As for her coaching, we could predict what workouts we would be doing every week, all we had to do was look at what we did the year before, and the year before that. It was the same stuff over and over. If you know anything about distance running you know athletes don't improve this way. I could go on, but let me end with my favorite. She drove many of her athletes (men and women) to do unhealthy things to stay thin by constantly calling us fat (which we weren't). And sure a lot of college distance coaches are in the business of keeping their team thin, but that still doesn't make it right. My experience at UCF wasn't all bad. I made some of the best friends I'll ever have and the campus/academics were great. I certainly learned some valuable lessons about life and people. I just want to see this program be as good as I know it can be. It may finally have its chance.
I hope Marcia the best as she moves on to take on a different role in the life the Lord's given her. As being one of her recently lost athletes I found it very good of her to contact most of her mens cross country team to let us know that she will not be coaching us next year. I'm sorry that she had to resign (I dont know details...just as most of the UCF athletes do not know details). If you are reading this Coach Wentworth...Thank you for aiding in my change for the better. Especially when you put me in my place. Its been a blessing training with you. God bless!

OH......she's reading this and contributing some of the posts. Glad she's gone.
Ok, just to be clear...I've noticed that at least 2 (maybe more) CURRENT athletes have posted on this topic and many former athletes have posted. The stories that UCFALUM posted are very true, and everything else that the former athletes have posted are all true. I don't care what everybody else "thinks" about the coach, the facts are out there.
As for me personally, she has never done anything bad to me, but I know very well what she has done to current athletes and to former athletes. As I stated earlier, she is EXTREMELY RESISTANT to change, the workouts we do are not only the wrong workouts, the are predictable...if you keep a log, look back to the previous year at the same point in the season and you will know what you will be running. Doing certain workouts year after year isn't always a bad thing, but maybe only a few, THAT YOU KNOW WILL HELP! If someone had a suggestion on what different workouts to do, she simply wouldn't listen.
In the past 3 years, we have gotten some excellent freshman just out of high school...how many are left now? ZERO. They either transferred or chose not to run anymore. If that doesn't say anything, listen to this...not a single guy on the current team was recruited, they all went to her first. She does not recruit at all, in fact she has been quoted many times saying "I always get somebody", implying that someone always just falls in her lap. As someone said before, with an enrollment of 48,000+ students, and a beautiful campus such as UCF, she shouldn't have much of a problem getting recruits, the problem was she didn't do anything.
Like I stated earlier, I don't care what anybody else says, this is how it is. No matter what happens a new coach is what this program has needed for many years.
It's funny, in a very sick way, because I know of other DI coach's that don't know what they are doing with training, don't recruit, don't care, drink on road trips, encourage eating disorders and abuse their athletes. Some of them have relative success. And their administrations are extremely reluctant to get rid of them as well. Her behavior, if what is reported on here is accurate, is unfortunately not uncommon in DI coaching.
