run a sub-4:00 mile or a sub-13:00 5K?
run a sub-4:00 mile or a sub-13:00 5K?
well if you can run a sub-13:00 5K then its almost guaranteed that you can run a sub-4:00 mile, but the same doesn't apply the other way around. so i'd go with the sub-13:00 5K.
Mile or 1500 meters.
The mile: classic distance and you can run a ton of them in a year's time.
sub 13 is much more significant of an accomplishment...alot more rare (at least among non-africans) as only 3 or four have gone under
deiter (doenst really count), kennedy, and buster i believe
all of whom have run well under 4 minutes
sub-4 minute mickey d's dollar menu challenge.
sub 13 you are a guaranteed olympian in the US. Sub 4 and you are definately not a guaranteed olympian.
sub 13 and you are a legit professional runner. Sub 4 and you may just be scraping by as a professional runner... but probably log hours in a running store too.
I'm going with the sub 13 if I had the chioce, pretty obvious. Its going to be a pretty outstanding improvement for me too, I cant wait to do it. I'll be breaking 13 and 14 for the first time in the same race!
sub 13 no question.....very very very few americans have even reached that feat wheras so many have run sub 4
sub 13 means nothing to most people you encounter who ask how fast you can run. anything over a mile and they lose interest. sub 4 is much more commonly known.
but it's obvious that personally a sub 13 trumps a sub 4 any day.
my question would be sub-13 5k or a sub-3:50 mile?
