I think the NET downhill is actually somewhere close to 125 feet not 300 feet. There are 300 of downhills but there are also uphills along the course that make the net downhill way less than 300 ft.

Tom is a graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle PA. Hopefully this will attract more solid HSers to DC, as over time the program develops good runners and leaves them in a strong place to run well after college too.
rhodes is just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world
don't stop believin'
He stands at a towering 5 feet, 0 inches
Upon first glance, you would think puberty is just around the corner for the little lad of 23 years...
But underneath his boyish good looks and lightning quick wit there lurks a demon...a running demon...that preys on the blood of those taller and seemingly faster than him
But really, he just trains with much dedication and is a really nice guy. He wasn't blessed with a lot of talent, but makes up for it with his pear-shaped muscular organ.
The start is ~167 feet above sea level the finish is ~18-20 feet above sea level.
140 foot drop at the most.
do it on gmaps, i just did. should solve the bickering. it's a slight downhill, not as much as some people would like you to think.
the bickering is fine. the course is fast and the conditions are generally good every year. from my first experience at broad street, it seemed the first 5 miles are maybe 30 seconds fast and the last 5 are pretty fair. we did have a tailwind for portions of the race but occasionally had some gusts hit us from the side and front during the last 5 miles. kick ass race though as you actually get to race from "here to there". it is an aided course, but you still have to be fit and ready to race or you'll get drilled.
I heard Tom Rhodes smells like garlic and tastes like freedom.
The race was much more than 30 seconds fast. If you want to get a sense of what times on a downhill, wind-aided, or short course might be equivalent to on an accurately measured, record-quality course, just compare the times of particular runners with their recent past performances. For example, the guy who won the race ran a 13:53 5,000 at the Penn Relays a week earlier. His time at the Broad Street race, if done on a record-quality course, would probably be the equivalent of about a 13-flat or better. He's a decent runner, but he's no Geb.
People who run these races always manage to convince themselves that they, and thousands of other participants, magically jumped up a few levels of fitness overnight.
Dickinson college sucks, maybe the running is decent but the academics....well I guess you just don't have to be super bright to go there. It's not terrible but far from the top of their conference academically.
P.S. you guys have to get some new running shorts, the ones you have now leave nothing to the imagination.
I'm pretty sure this race means he's the second coming of Pre, what do you think avocado?
Nobody is convincing themselves of anything here. The only repeated statement in these posts has been the solid effort put forth and the encouragement to keep running well.
I guess we could be saying that the top four guys are the best runners around, but that would be exceptionally inaccurate and not a single person, with the exception of frumpy Mr. Astle, would agree.
Stop saying that people are claiming glory and Valhalla for these runners when all it is really is: "good job, guys."
He may be the next coming of pre but he is still an EX world tag team champion.

Sigma Chi fraternity? I thought they stopped wrestling years ago.
Tom Rhodes carried Mooch on his shoulders the first half of the race.

Also, Yout is a former Div 3 runner as well.

probably 13:10, but whatever.
meanwhile, no one's saying he's on his way to beijing, but tommmy beat a lot of good guys to come in 4th yeaterday, many of whom have run faster than he ever has at this point. due to injury, last year was the first good consistent year of training he's ever been able to put in. and he had a decent year. add another consistent year, and now he's a little better- yesterday proved that, regardless of your attempts to beliettle his race. isn't that what is supposed to happen? even if he gained an entire minute from the gravity/wind, it's still a huge breakthrough for him.
we love the kid and we're just here to congratulate him. tearing down his accomplishment just makes you look petty and jealous, but i guess that's what this place is known for, so have at it...
So are the Hansons or Team Cali calling? He finished one minute behind Yout. Yout has never been close to 29:00 for 10k. You figure it out.
Just because someone ran 13:53 for 5k at Penn doesn't mean a whole lot. it was a very different race under different conditions and a paycheck was involved.
Avocados are gross, and your attitude sucks.
average SAT for the class of '10 was 1310. yeah that sucks.

You are all stupid. Shut the hell up. 10 miles is 10 miles. And it is a race.
