So here's a good thread over there that is pretty laughable and one that could sure use some Let's Run flare.

Here's a little secret:
I run 20 miles a week. I will get that up some when I want to finish a half marathon or marathon.
I love running the amount I do. I run more than 30 miles a week and it's not fun to me any more. I do place more emphasis on body building, something I enjoy a lot more than running. Some of you lift and if you did that as much as I did, you'd dislike it as much as I'd dislike running if I tried to do it as much as you do.
Still, I like getting out and running. I like the way it feels. I like being outdoors. I like pushing myself to a certain limit, but that's it. My goal is to break 4 in a marathon and I'm happy. I don't want to do any more work than that because that's what it becomes. Work. I don't want to work at running. I think just finishing is fun. No, I don't think having a marathon medal is something to be proud of. I find it quite amusing that they give out medals for finishing. Especially for finishing over 4 hours.
Now, I admire you guys and girls who take it seriously. It's your passion and I have the utmost respect for you. But, why pick on others who don't have the same passion as you do? Why is it such a big deal? I see runners in the gym all the time lifting a little. I don't belittle them nor laugh at them because their bench press is so light. I let them do their thing and gladly offer any advice when they ask.
Can someone explain to me runners or joggers as you may call them are such a threat to you?
Robert, once you understand that the majroity of Letsrun posters are children with imaginary juvenile gripes, no matter what their chronological age may be, all becomes clear.

Threat, no. Annoying, yes. Either way I lose no sleep over them.
Why annoying? One of the great mysteries to me, is why a segment of the population insists they line up at the front of races when they will finish in the bottom third of the race. Why line up in the front? Is it a rush to get passed by the whole field? Training runs: When doing a tempo run on a path, why is it up to me to move away from soccer Moms running 4 across taking up the whole path?
It is because they claim it to be their passion as well, but do not take it seriously. They want the glory and admiration of being a distance runner, but do not put in the amount of dedication, effort, time, and sacrifices that we do. It would be like someone claiming to be a body-builder, but all they do is TALK about it. They might show up at the gym on the weekend just to socialize, bench press three reps, and then go home.
And this bothers you...why? Frankly, I don't think they're looking for "glory." They want to get out of the house and meet some people and be a bit healthier. This has become a crime, somehow?
I don't think anyone who was satsified with his own running and his own life would be upset by any of this.
What is so impressive about 80 mile weeks?
get out of here
What about the salt tablets? gotta take 4 during the marathon.
Does that mean 2 during the HM and 1 in the 10k?
It's easy to bash Runner's World, and the linked threads from earlier are prime examples of the ditzyness that goes on there. (not that there isn't a lot of stupidity and absurdity on Letsrun). As for bashing joggers--you may see some of that, but for the most part, competitive runners are pretty supportive of those who just want to get out there, move, and shed a few pounds. I for one do bristle at this reverse snobbery you see--not unlike the Yanqui post below--and perhaps epitomized by the Penguin and his followers.

Reverse snobbery? It's more a case of being annoyed that they don't know their place. They're party crashers, like loud, oblivious, fat tourist slobs who can't make sense of local customs and don't care to and are looking to take way more than they give. What direct link between shedding pounds and entering races could there be? Why do those who spend so little time physically involved in the act of running spend so much time thinking and talking about it and going around acting like they've got it all figured out?
Nice post
Letsrun = The children of the above who act like they are Old Running Boom types while living at home til they are 30 and getting a car and allowance, overusing the word "dude" working at Blockbuster and blaming penguins for their inabilty to crack the top 5 at the local fun run.
Hey, I am an old running boom type. I read RW when it wasn't a rag, and that's a long time ago. I wore adidas Marathon Trainers and Nike Equator, there's a blast from the past. True, most Let's Run posters are rude self absorbed idiots who I think should stop with the doping allegations. The only dopes are the ones posting sometimes.
What goes around comes around...They're dissing Letsrun at RW.

It's good to be reminded that Letsrun isn't the only board full of illiterate windbags and stuffed shirts, or even the worst. What a gathering of hacks, in every sense of the word, they've got nothing to stand on for slinging rocks at anyone else. I like the "opinionated" tool who posted 2500+ times in less than a year on that board (What's that, 50-odd posts a week? Nice life.) trying his pathetic, limp-wristed potshot. You post on RUNNERS WORLD DOT COM! Hell, you apparently spend A LOT of your waking hours there! What person with a shred of dignity would degrade themselves like that unless he didn't know any better or suffered from a psychological disorder?

I was a regular poster there a very long time ago (under a different name) when they first had forums, so I have the right to pick on them. It's sort of like picking on a younger sibling. I didn't mean any harm.
"I don't think "elite" can be defined as a measure of performance, ie the top 1% or 10% or whatever. Rather, elite status is more a measure of someone's mental ability to push on. You can be a elite runner and run a 4 hour marathon or a 2:20 marathon. I think what makes someone elite is how they react when times get tough. Many runners feel pain in the late (or early) parts of a race, what you do with that pain is the determining factor.
I've known many naturally gifted runners who would pack it in when times get hard, and I've known a few normal runners who couldn't be denied. That is what I consider elite."
i just registered for this forum just so i can make fun of all these people until i get hopelessly banned
