Since that girl graduated from Butler the only Aussie on the college scene is Mike Power @ Memphis. What gives?
NZ, on the other hand, has a bunch.
PS Not that I'm complaining.

That is true. I could name at least 6 kiwis, men & women, off the top of my head, but am hard-pressed to think of any Aussies. Is there a current trend for Aussies to boycott US colleges?
My guess would be that they have good schools there and some pride in their country. Not the say that NZ doesn't, but if there is a country with plenty of reason to stay and not go to school halfway around the world, its Australia.
Iowa State has an aussie steepler on their team. I think there is also one at either UF or FSU.

RFXC, don't buy that argument, sorry. Aussies are the most prolific travelers in the world. A college scholarship would be a form of world travel for them. There is an expression down under "I got my degree in OE (Overseas Experience).
Any more theories????
Zoe Buckman?
Most would prefer to stay there. Depending on the year, the competition can be very good and the schools are comparable. More support from the sports institutes than you can get from any college here. Athletes not anxious to get here for a home base like many of the Irish runners used to do.
Remember, in the beginning Australia was an English penal colony. Their ancestors are what remains today.
the university of georgia has an aussie, i think he is an 800 meter guy

Ray, you make a good point about the Sports Institutes. Were they created for the Sydney Olympics and Melbourne Commonwealth Games?
Also, Ray - are you Ray Treacy from Providence College?

Ray is Ray Lapinski
Memphis has 3 (not including distance coach - Mike Power (previously of U of Arkansas), Tulsa 1, UTEP 1, Oregon 1, and the others that were named already. Aussies are starting to realize that coming over here to a quality University is a chance to travel, see a part of the world that excites them, and get a degree that will last a lifetime. Keep it coming....
there is a heap of us over here.....most of us in our first season...you will start seeing results soon
