rono ran a 8:05 steeple, i dont care if he never ran within 30 seconds of that time again, it is still unbelievable.

How old was Rono? He was an incredible runner that year, but not exactly 18-22.
If you're talking about the women, which almost no one is, you have to mention Amy Skieresz. And for the men, it's Nyambui

Rono was obviously blessed with tones of genetic talent, but that doesnt make him the best college runner. What is that shit of him going out and getting drunk the night before his race and the next night setting a world record. All that guy did was blow his talent and underachieve, he can't be on the same level of the people who wrapped their lives around running and made all the right moves and decisions to get where they were at. I say Pre was the best runner, go read that guys Bio, then come post a message before you start talking about how Rono and his Drunk old ass was "By far the best runner."
So he was a drunk, so we're gonna eliminate him for that, well Pre got his stupid assed killed driving drunk, read his bio, thats pretty sad. You know what we're talking about who was the best runner here, Rono was the best runner in the whole world while he was in college, none of the others were close, well Nyambui got an olympic silver in the 5k, and Pre was 4th. I think it comes down to Nyambui and Rono, and whether international is more important than collegiate accomplishments.
Hey Pre may have died in a Car crash because he was drunk, but at least he didnt go to A&M and turn into a has been out in his first year of college like you did!
1. Rono
2. Nyambui
3. Lindgren
4. Pre
5. Falcon
Also deserves mention: Ryun and, by the end of next year, Cragg
How can you rank Pre behind Lindgren when after his FRESHMAN year, Pre just owned Lindgren? I would put Gerry in the prodigy category, but hey that's just my opinion. I thought Falcon was pretty freakin tough having won (if my old fart memory serves correctly) both 1500 and 10,000 titles in college. Kennedy was pretty salty in college as well with 2 cc titles at either end of his years at IU, but I also liked Doug Padilla going toe to toe with Nyambui during an indoor NCAA meet when Suleiman was just killing everyone. Pre may well have won at least 4 more NCAA titles if Oregon ever ran at indoor NCAA
Not many of us have thought of it...but Cragg has the chance of winning 9 NCAA titles by the end of next year. Could that 10th one be the one that was rendered to D. Lincoln during the outdoor season, OUCH? I wont say that he was the best ever, but surely up there with some of the more dominant figures in NCAA history.
Me. I was/am the greatest. I was also funny.

Rono WAS the better runner, just not the better collegiate runner. Just because there's a widely-read book written about the guy doesn't make him any better than the other guys being considered here.
Jim Ryun is being seriously overlooked here. NCAA titles are nothing compared to world records, especially in a "marquis event" like the mile.
According to that article, Rono was 48 in February 2000, placing his birthdate somewhere in '51 or '52. So, he was at least 25 when he won all his NCAA titles, which I'm pretty sure is the cutoff age in current NCAA rules. Legal at the time though.

hey Genius, we are talking about the best college runner, not the best runner ever. What the hell is wrong with all you people, ya'll must like Rono too much because it seems you are taking after him by getting drunk and comming onto this message board and talking shit about stuff that isn't even on here
sulieman nyambui utep mothaf***as, olympic silver a few 10k xc and 5k champs too
