I'm a post collegiate runner.
I work full time.
Mostly I run early in the morning before work.
During the winter, when it's dark in the morning and after work, and I still have track workouts on my training schedule...
Is it acceptable for me to run at the local high school track near my office during my lunch hour, when the school is in session?
I feel like I'm trespassing. I probably am. The kids look like they're dying to heckle me, but are mostly holding back for some reason. A couple have given me some light sarcastic heckles like, "run like the wind, dude" or "yeah, yeah, push it, last lap, dude." And of course a couple times a workout someone will walk right across the track in front of me while I'm in the middle of an interval, almost resulting in a collision.
Their track is brand spankin new. A great facility. The PE teachers look at me sideways. Once I asked one of them if I could workout there and she said yes.
Bottom line is that I know it's their track, not mine. And I really hate running there during school, but hey, I NEED to get in my intervals right. And running them in the total darkness has proved useless for me in the past... for some reason I slow way down no matter what... perhaps because I can't SEE.
Anyway, it's getting light in the morning again now, so it's a non-issue for the next 6 months. But like the "running in the cemetery" question, I was curious what people thought. In particular anyone who works or coaches at a high school.
