Dudes, anyone who can't run sub 2:45 on 50 miles per week is a jogger. I ran a 2:50 on a dare with no training and had no problems.

i agree. 2:50 shouldnt be too hard to accomplish as a runner off of 50 a week. thats what i maxed out in in college

Working full time 4 years out of school, 28 years old, one day off a week, 10 week average of 46 (high of 58) miles, 6 long runs between 16 and 21 miles, a lot of 8 milers, PR's(from college days) of 15:41 5km / 33:12 10 km = 2:49 marathon after a 2:51 debut off of less training.
I agree, anyone (in their 30's) running over 50 miles a week and not breaking 2:50 is not a 'natural runner'. A former teammate runs 4X week; 2 X 40' runs, 1 X 60 at MP, 1 long run = 2:47 at age 36 (2:36 PR at age 27). He couldn't gain weight if he tried - genetics!
without any miles, I ran 3 21
I know a guy last year who ran Boston sub 2:48 off of about 45 mpw, maybe he hit 50 one week during the training cycle.
It's possible if you have the talent.
people need to disclose any cross-training involved as well. Another bidg thing is lifetime base mileage, which will affect teh numbers.
My last road marathon was 2.57 off 3 runs per week and ave. 50kmpw. Typical week was like this Tues- long run 30plus km xc(longest was 44km of steep mtn running)
Thu- short speed run in 1/2 hr meal break usually a few minutes warmup then 1.6km in 5.15, 2x400m 75s jog back, hose off under cold shower and back to work.
Sun - club race of 5-10km. before work.
On top of this I was commuting to work by bike up to 200km per week. I was 40 years old, 3 kids and 2 jobs.
I have subsequently run better performances in trail ultras off ave of 60km per week plus the cycling.
In my 20s I ran a couple of low 2.40 marathons off 140 plus km weeks.
Prior to turning 40 I ran 4 marathons in 4 years the first 2 were in 2.53 and the next 2 in 2.58. For the 2.53s I was hitting 60-80km per week and the 2.58s were done off 50-60km per week.
Had Hernia Surgery last summer and ran New York on like 30 mpw 'tops'...got a 3:10. With no excuse this time, I will be running Boston on the same mileage, maybe less, we will see...
