There is a fine article about teacher and great United States Marathoner John J. Kelley in the May edition of Runner's World written by protege Amby Burfoot who also won Boston. In his day, John, the Younger, was the number one marathon runner on the continent. Just as importantly we all learned from him.
In addition to his Boston win, he was second in the Boston Marathon five times, won the United States Marathon Championship eight times in a row and was on the US Olympic Team in 1956 and 1960.
