run 2 x 600 @ 1:30 with full recovery.

Agreed, ninetonite=b.s.
You are fit enough, just get out there and RACE.
I will do. I'll let you know how i do.
That workout is not BS. Breaking 2:00 ain't easy. Any monkey can go out in 60 sec for 400 or 1:30 for 600 but try taking it home and you'll quickly find out that the last 200 is like dying and going to hell, and it takes like 32 seconds. Good luck running 2:02 off 4 X 60sec with loads of rest. Last I checked in an 800 race there weren't no coffee break at the end of the first 400.
Now if he said 4 X 58 with 3 min rest, well, maybe 1:59 is in the cards.
Plus 200s are a breeze, do 300s and 500s and maybe some 150s all-out.

The fitness is there, that is a good indicator workout and if you have 40-50 miles you have a solid base. Ninetonite's workout is complete bullshit. When I broke 2 for the first time I couldn't touch that workout.
Agreed. 4x's the race distance in a workout? That's ridiculous for ANY race distance, NO ONE does any more than 2x's the race distance.
I run 1:58 right now and I can (and have) done the OP's workout. Go out in 57 and kick man. Think pumping you arms, turnover turnover. Also if you start 1 to a lane make sure you don't cut in at the breakline if you are out in lane 6+. Cut in at 10m x the lane, ie 60m for 6, etc.
How old are you and how fast you do 400m.
22. No clue on 400 time. I do 120's (self timed) in 16's with ease.
Pr's last year:
800: 2:16 (coach asshole made me do it 12hrs after a 5k)
1500:4:38
5k:16:55i
This year:
800: 1:58.8
1500: 4:11
5k: Who cares I'm not a 5k runner.
Are you a 56sec 400m man.Training for the 800m
If you runing 1;58, for 800m.You can run a 3:58 1500m ane a 50 400m.
I was never a 1/2 miler, but I have to agree w/ several other posters: just go do it! Get out after it, and bring it home. Tuck 'em in and bite down hard. If you don't get it the first time, keep going. I noticed one poster commented on you having to ask the question in the first place. Good point. Get it into your head that you can, then go do it.
What is you race to day and how do you workout.

Batman i ran 1:58 for 800 and couldn't touch those other times. 51+ in 4by4 and 4:15 1500.
Owen Wilson ran 1:55 in high school
i like to give my kids broken intervals with very short recovery. for example, i'll do something like 400, 30 sec rest, 200. 5min rest after the 2, then repeat two more times. i also like starting a workout off with a good solid 600 or 400 at race pace, followed usually by a 400, and then some 3's. 200s to me dont seem like a long enough distance to base the whole workout on
my workout yesterday was 2x700, 600, 2x500 with 4.5 minutes rest inbetween each interval
my times were 1:48, 1:51, 1:29, 1:13, 1:13
can i break 2? im new to running and havent raced yet

yeah you should be in fine shape to do it, that 600 and 2 500s really prove you have the overall speed and strength, as long as they were not all out.
better workout would be 20x200 m in 28 sec with 200m rest. 3 minutes rest is too much rest
I did 4x400 with 6 minutes rest. Worked fine for me. I alread have the endurance. The long recoveries help my speed.
Every session has a point, 4x400 of 6 is very useful for 800 for speed if you run flat out. If you run at 5k pace it's much less for 800 and more obvious would be eg. 5x1000 off 2/3min.

That's a pretty demanding workout... I would think he could dip well under 2:00 if he could do that. I think I used to run 10x200 @ 30-31 w/ 200m jog rest and I ran 2:05.x
