this video and 3RD LEG is why:
That was a totally awesome relay team, but I think that he was meaning the 4x1 rather than the 4x4.
4x100 m
Abilene Christian had some great relay teams back in the 50's.They set 5 world records.
Waymond Griggs
James Segrest
Bill Woodhouse
Bobby Morrow
As ya know TCU has had many speedy foursomes. Then there was that...
Earl McCullouch
Fred Kuller
O.J.Simpson
Lennox Miller
...USC team.
I believe TCU had what was basicly the Jamacian National team running in the very late 1990s. Percival Spencer era anyway.
Plus no college 4x1 conversation would be complete without mention of those great San Jose guys under Bud Winter in the 1960s.
Between 1958 and 1970 San Jose State had...
Ray Norton
Dennis Johnson
Bobby Poynter
Wayne Herman
Tommie Smith
Sam Davis
Ronnie Ray Smith
Bill Gaines
Kirk Clayton
Lee Evans
John Carlos
There are six Olympians/world record holders up there.
The 4x220 WR team with Carlos and Smith had Ken Shackelford and Bob Talmadge both above average sprinters overshadowed by their teammates who were great sprinters. .While not a sprinter Chris Papanicolaou- was the first guy to PV 18 foot in 1970 .Did they ever get a chance to run a relay withRRSmith, Carlos , Evans , Tommie Smith? I believe all those guys might have overlapped enough '68? maybe.
