I have only found/"hunted" for them once and it was on a golf course when I hit my ball out of bounds. I had eaten them before and love them. I don't go out and look for them myself, I just bum off various friends and family when they find them. Anyways, they are amazing. All I do is pan fry them in buuter then add salt. What is your secret recipe?
Eater not hunter. I'm a NY city guy I love NYC but eat stuff I find ramdomly growing here... like I said I'm a NYC guy.
I use them in risotto or any place I'd use other mushroom/truffle type ingredients. But buttersaltpepper in a hot pan works fine for me too. Cooked with bacon and added to eggs works nice too.
Around Mother's day is the traditional time around here. They seem to be most plentiful around dying elm trees.
I used to pick them in college, but just enough to buy beer.
I enjoyed being out in the woods. They are like weeds here in Eastern Oregon.
