Re. the claim that science converges toward "reality":
I would agree that this cannot be proven with mathematic certainty, but in the common sense, it does appear to be the case. Trivial example: gravity seems to obey the same laws here as in "Soviet Russia" . I don't care to waste time on solipsism - sure we might just be brains in a vat etc, etc.
On your second point about faith: I agree that a person can have faith in anything whatsoever, for no reason whatsoever. That may be a problem in and of itself. It rises to a whole new level though (and now becomes a certain problem) when an article of faith contradicts the real world. THAT is what I was getting at. Now I think, a seeker of knowledge (or simply an hinest person) ought to try to resolve the conflict by examining their assumptions. But then again, I suppose cognitive dissonance is always an option.
