you cannot run 175mpw...it is impossible in ur physiological career, you should try to run closer to 70-80mpw with ankle weights to build strength

Read Bill Rodgers book. He was in the exact same situation you are back in 74, I think. About the same level of runner, too before he got fired and relied on Ellen for support. I think he improved a little......
Read the book, too, not just for inspiration, but for training advice better than the knuckleheads on here can give. Now that you have enough time, high volume at moderate to slow pace with sufficient rest and recovery is possible. You might not be the next BR, but you'll never know until you try.
OldXCguy is dead-on! The phrase 'thon' is simply the gayest phrase ever. The use of'sick' to mean good or wicked pales in comparison to how utterly ridiculous 'thon' sounds. Can you imagine if we just started using the last half of the letters for every word we used... he st lf f he ters or ery rd e ed?
this is something more people should go after.... you only live once. the rest of the world and its obesity in dead end jobs make me sick!
i just got out of college, have a solid degree with some good qualifications for a decent job (in sport management), but theres no way in hell i'm going for a full time job to give up my chances to run my best. I'm just working part time at a running store, running, eating, sleeping. I could however, use less hours at the store.
Money is not my motivator. As long as I can pay for food and a decent place to live (being single without a family), i'm happy and running. Oh and I am a girl, just to let you know that its not only guys that do these kind of things.
yes to you chick! working at a running store and running your heart out. thats what i'm trying to do. screw life, i can deal with that when i'm 30!

Why the f*** would he want to do that? So he can spend all that time working on his feet for what, maybe $10 an hour? If you're going to run 140+ mpw, then don't waste your time on a part time job. That is, if you can get away with it, and it sounds like (thanks to your very understanding wife) you can.
Have sex everyday too, it can be replaced as a third workout with no; excuse the pun; pounding on your legs.
i've tried adding the sex after a lot of miles, on hard days.. damn it can tire you out and overwork the hamstrings.. as long as you aren't one of those girls that just lays there.
Have a kid and become a stay-at-home dad, while running 20 miles a day.
