Is this the fastest by a high school senior?
i think eaton ran 24:04 at usatf xc's last year.
Wow! That's fast! It must be the fastest for a high schooler. I can't imagine anyone running faster than that.
does this person have a name?
TC Lumbar. Reportedly going outside the state once again for college. Placencia loses another top runner.
pardon my blatant ignorance, but what race is this from?
The Human Race in St. Paul, MN.
yeah, but the course is insanely fast, and likely short. usually, the winner runs under 24 minutes. the kid is very good, but he isnt even the top MN high school runner IMO. Mead from Minneapolis South was top 5 at footlocker nats. Things may have changed, but I dont see Mead losing to him in track. And Mead is running at the U of M next year from what I heard, so placencia didnt lose the top runner. And last year he got Torchia, who was the states top runner that year. Id say the U is doing the best theyve done in some time.
You really don't get it. The best they have in a while? Didn't qualifiy for Nationals for the first time in a while. Plas has no clue how to train anyone but a marathoner. Watch and pay attention to all of the guys who leave the state. Two just ran the mile at D1 indoors. They can't run fast enough to get away from this state and the U
Course is generally fast- but has not been the point to point net drop that it once was (ie back in the 80's). It's an out and back that is certified, and has been the same course for years. So doubt its short. The winner this year was not sub 24, and rarely is. This Year was kind of cold and blustery, so a pretty decent run. Schooled me.
The course: Fast? Maybe. It has a downhill finish, but it's out and back. We're not talking about St. George here. Actually, like this year, low 24's usually wins it. Chris Lundstrom, a 2:17 marathoner won it last year in 23:50ish, but that's the only the last time in a few years when I can remember someone getting under 24. Short? Not likely. It's certified. There is a lot of talent in the Minnesota high school ranks right now. Mead is amazing, but certainly not the only blue-chipper in the state. Elliot Heath just won the junior cross title in Boulder. Rob Finnerty, a junior this year, broke 9 in the two at a post season meet last year. TC and his teammate Tom Burke, who coincidentally ran 24:48 on Sunday, went 9:12 and 9:14 respectively last year. I agree that Coach Plascencia has done a good job keeping a lot of that talent at home in recent years. Not every kid wants to stay in state, and regardless of how good a job Plascencia does, he's not going to sign everyone.

What is a high school runner doing running a road race this close to track season? Did he mop up everyone in XC? Isn't somebody telling him that he'll have the rest of his life to run road races?
Things can change, but I remember it being a big deal during XC that Mead has weak track PRs. Didn't he have 2:0x+ in the 800 and 4:2x+ in the 1600. He can definitely get faster, but track and XC are different playing fields.
Are you new to the sport? Lots of HSers run in road races. Not every state starts outdoor at the same time. Texas started weeks ago...Michigan is soon to have it's indoor state meet.

Why are you blaming this on Plasencia? What prep runner wouldn't want to flee Minnesota at his/her first opportunity?
The fact that Plasencia keeps anyone is remarkable.
Spoken like a true 'sconi. Where do you live? Eau Claire. ; )

Nope, Colorado. But you'd have to have lived in both places, particularly during the summer and winter, to know what I'm talking about.
Name one All american in the 11 years Plas has been at MN that actually came from MN?
Has Minnesota even had ANY all-Americans in the last two decades?
Is this time for a 5K?
