I am tapering for a big 5000m race in two weeks and am considering whether to run a 1500m this coming weekend as a tune-up or simply taking the week off racing entirely. What does eveyone think. Will a shorter tune-up race help or hurt?

do it! it will make 5K pace seem more comfortabe
also, its only a 1500, so you won't feel any residual effects by the time your 5K rolls around
Thanks.
Any drawbacks to racing a shorter distance the week before?
Nope, it might even help.
Running this 1500 has benefits such as keeping you focused and sharp for the big one. It also has psychological benefits due to the fact that it is a good workup to the 5000m. Good luck with both man!
