Has anyone ever had sesamoiditis? I've haven't run for 5 weeks, the pain so was bad I had two weeks on crutches, MRI scan showed no fracture just inflammation around the sesamoid bones in my foot.
I had a cortisone injection two weeks which has helped but I'm still struggling, I'm wearing a metatarsal pad which has eased the pain.
The doctor reckons I should be running soon but at the moment my foot gets sore just walking, how long does it usually last?
yeah, i had sesamoiditis. i was able to run through it, but it was still pretty painful at times. mine is pretty up and down though. ill have times when i have it for a few months, and then it will just go away. so my vote would be to just run through it if you can.

Been out six weeks myself. I'm able to bike and do a few other cross-training things, but walking and running are out. Mine got 85 percent better very quickly, but every time I've tried to run on it, even 30 minutes, I'm back to square one.
I've had for a while now. Even when I take large amounts of time off it comes back. The pain is usually quite managable, just kinda grinds at you after while.
I've had this for a while too, managing to run 30 minutes a day but my foot does get really sore, is it ok to run on it or am I risking long term damage?
i think i have this too. i've had a few weeks off at a time but it comes back very quickly. any advice on stuff to make this better?

Here's what I did...
After trying various stratagies to maintain training level, foot did not improve and I went to a podiatrist who X-rayed and could not diagnose whether fractureed or not. He made an orthotic that I used and built mileage back up. Still not 100% 6 months later went to ortho who thought it was not fractured only sesimoditis. Decided to try running with orthotic in shoe and have been feeling OK. Increased weekly miles from 30 to fifty over last couple months. Trying to get some track or trail running in to minimize impact effects.
To copy the design of the original orthotic, I took the shoe insert and glued shock absorbing material to arch area to build that up and also glued a strip across the forefoot area except for the ball of the foot. The raised arch eliminates almost all the impact to the ball of the foot and the forefoot cushion helps keep the foot from rolling out too much. Some have suggested that you can just cut out the ball of the foot area from the insert but you really need extra arch support to minimize the primary impact.

yeah, i started running in my orthotics (made by a podiatrist) - things imprved for a while then they have started downhill again. Guess I need to go for an xray/bone scan/mri
