it seems like every triathlete coach I have had discussions with believes that high mileage running is counterproductive for triathletes. However, it seems kind of ridiculous that in ITU triathlon, where the 10k is clearly the most important leg of the race, athletes don't focus more on strong aerobic 10k training ala lydiard style. I remember one coach clearly saying that there is just no benefit for triathletes to run more than 40-60 miles per week, because of the aerobic cross over from other sports. I disagree, but maybe I am just being "runningcentric" in my thoughts about this type of training for a 3sport event. Elite 10k runners train 90-120 mpw, why wouldnt you see more triathletes doing at least 70-80?
