"What meet were you watching? How is finishing 1,4,5,6 with Dartmouth 2nd and 3rd giving the meet away? The only way that might be embarrassing would be the lack of opposition put up by the rest of the league (apart from Dartmouth), a foretaste of the XC this fall I guess where I think you could say that the Tigers 'stepped up big'. Or perhaps you meant that the 5k was embarrassing because of Cornell's failure to place anyone?"
What I meant by embarassing was the way in which Princeton lost the meet last year. The 5k was the event in which Princeton was supposed to dramatically outscore Cornell (possibly by as much as 24 to zero) and they did not come through. Both Maag and Nightengale were held out of other events so that they were fresh for the 5k and they had the two best times in the league going into the meet. I'm sure if you asked either of those guys about their performances they would not say they were pleased about it. I am not suggesting that either gentlemen is not a good runner or a choke artist or anything like that. I am merely pointing out that Princeton had a chance to win the meet with a strong performance in the 5k. Those guys did not have good days, or two Dartmouth guys had better days. However, you want to slice it 1,4,5,6 is not what Princeton was looking for. They needed 1,2,3 to win the meet, and they had the talent. They just couldn't deliver that day. This related to the indoor heps prediction thread, because Princeton can not afford for either Maag or Nightengale to have off days at the indoor heps this year. I'm not suggesting they will (which you will see if you check my earlier predictions).
Man you are really upset about this... You should probably get the sand out of your vagina. I'm sure its been a while since you cleaned it and you're probably irritated as hell. So get a nice long hose and put it on full blast and clean out that sore sandy vag.
Sorry to say but 7 points would have made a big difference. Going into the 4 X 4 princeton needed cornell to totally bomb so they could win and princeton needed to win. I saw the prineton guy try to knock the baton out of a cornell runners hand on one of the exchanges and therefore screwed himself over and he dropped the baton. Those 7 points would have put alot less pressure on princeton and more on Cornell and therefore anything could have happened. As we know Dq's and stuff happen and so maybe princeton would have won, you never know.
Jeez Phil., the guy was just saying that if the 14:00 5k guys had come through Princeton would have been within striking distance.
The reason this is relevant:
The same two guys who had FAR and away the greatest 5k times in the league last year, and yet were unable to dominate their event now have FAR and away the best 3k times.
What is so hard to understand?
Those guys are huge studs obviously, and this weekend they have to do what is expected: utterly dominate their competition. Anything less could really hurt (or derail) the hopes of a STRONG princeton team.
And I don't think Stece Muchetti was all american? True was also running tired.
What you COULD do doesn't matter. What matters is what you actually DO. Past times and future times mean nothing. You could have far and away the best performances all season, but if you don't come up big when it counts, then it doesn't matter. Maybe Princeton was capable of going 1-2-3 in the 5k, but all that matters is that they didn't.
yeah phil, the logic here is pretty clear. he's not being unreasonable - just pointing out that maag and nightingale didn't run as well as they would have liked to last year.
It's a new year.
I wouldn't prejudge Maag and Nightingale based on their performance last spring.
I mean True went from out of the top 30 in the region in cross to top 35 at the national meet in one year.

Ben True would run...

Charlie Powell is to Emperor Palpatine as:
A) Ben True is to Yoda
B) Jimmy Wyner is to a Sand Person
C) Nathan Taylor is to Darth Vader
D) Craig Lake is to Princess Lea
E) James O'Toole is to a wookie.
"Mutual lean in kiss?"
