The favorite book thread has blossomed into a great read, and I thought it was only natural to explore the other side of the story. So, lay it down, THE absolute worst reading you were ever assigned to read. Here's mine:
Little Women - Ok, read this one in an intro American Lit survey. The professor, in her infinite wisdom decided that this book was worth two weeks of discussion. Mind you we read no Twain, no Hemingway. In fact, she didn't get through all that she wanted to in the alotted time so she spilled it over into the next week - haphazardly lopping off Eliot's Prufrock in the process! As far as the actual book is concerned - nevermind, I don't even want to discuss, let alone think about, that terrible waste of my time.
Honorable Mention
Jude the Obscure - Well I actually kind of got into this one. It's not actually here because I think it a poor novel, but rather because it is the single most depressing (overly depressing?) thing I have ever read. Not to ruin it for anyone else, but I still have nightmares about that one scene with the kids (if you've read it you know what I'm talking about). God Hardy, there's no way your life sucked that much.
Your turn.
