Today during my morning run I was going down a poorly-lit dirt path and rolled my ankle on a root. I've rolled my ankles before and usually just run it off immediately and I don't even notice it in a day or two. But this time was different. I was in serious pain right after it happened and I couldn't continue running. I tried walking for a bit and then jogging to test it out, but the pain was worse than I'd ever felt for a rolled ankle. I just couldn't run.
This happened about a mile into my run and I figured I'd have to limp home. So I start walking (admittedly ashamed to be walking) and every now and then I'd try jogging to see if I'd walked it off enough. After about three rotations of this walking/jogging it started to hurt less and I was able to claw through 8 more miles (I was supposed to do 12-14). At the end of the run, though, the pain was back just as badly as when the injury initially occurred. I guess the endorphins had worn off.
Anyway, I'm at work now and the pain is terrible even after popping four Advil about four hours ago. Like I said, I've rolled my ankles before, but never like this. I'm a little worried that I might have torn something. There's only a little swelling but very much tenderness on the inside of my ankle. It seriously hurts just sitting here.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound like a wuss, but this is bad. I've been training seriously for an upcoming marathon and this is a huge setback. I'm a 14:30/29:50 guy hoping to go 2:20. Any help or advice you guys/gals could provide would be much appreciated. Thanks!
