USC lost to UCLA and Oregon State in the Pac-10. I\'m not surprised in the least. The Pac-10 is the toughest and most competitive conference in college football and in most NCAA sports as well.
I\'m against an NCAA playoff system that people are talking about all over the damn place.
The Big 10, ND, SEC, etc., and sportswriters favor the BCS because they know that the strength of schedule (SOS) levels the playing field against the Pac-10 schools.
They know the history of NCAA sports, that the Pac 10 schools win the most NCAA championships year after year because they have significant advantages over recuiting, due to the academics offered, all year long mild weather coditions, and sport-participation culture of the Southwestern Pac-10 schools in particular.
The SOS handicap and BCS voting system evens the playing field against the Pac-10 and must remain. Without the SOS handicap, Big 10, ND, and SEC, etc. football would collapse, significant bowl game revenue lost, damaging academic scholarships and opportunities for student-athletes.
Just think of this likely scenario if we had an NCAA playoffs. With the loss of SOS handicap and BCS voting system, many top football coaches and players would sign with the Pac-10 instead of the Big 10, ND, and SEC. Initially the Pac-10 would win 1/2 of the NCAA Championships. After 5 to 10 years, the Pac 10 would win the NCAA Championships 4 out of 5 years.
That\'s why to preserve college football I favor keeping the BCS voting system and SOS handicap.
