What have been some big weight gains then the person gets back into it then loses a lot of weight and then they are good again? Example a 130lb guy goes to 180lbs then bounses back to 130 after training, any stories out there like that?

Last year, SoCal Pete took 5 months off...gained around 25-30 pounds, started running again in late summer, lost weight, then won Club Nats (masters) in Rochester. Continued on into track season & set a bunch of U.S. A.G. records.
As for me, I'm the opposite. I've been averaging 80 miles or so since June...can't lose weight, can't gain fitness...looks like Mom's genes are finally kicking in.
Haha...yea. So it can be done! I was a 29min 10k /8:19 3k guy and was about 130lbs then stopped and went up to almost 180(over 1.5yrs) and just in a couple months I am back down to 155lbs....don't know if I will ever be 100% again but you never know I guess.
Think of it as weight vest training. The more you shed, the quicker you will go, the lighter you will feel, and the stronger per pound you will be! Just don't lose it all at once...take your time and you will be there soon enough.

Actually I was 128 at the end of college. I went to a D3 school, and had a track pr of 16:11 5k. I went up to 190 over 2 years off. I came back and got back down to 128. Last month I ran a 14:31 5k road race and my current goal is to break 14.
I was about 93lbs and ran 11:18 for 3000m, then I was about 83lbs and ran a 10:08 3k and 5:02 for a mile.
Anyone ever notice that when you get weighed at the doctor's office their scales are WAY off your normal weight? I gained 10 pounds in 3 days according to my doctor.
I find the nurses blush when I dress the way I do when I normally weigh in at home. They usually laugh, but I don't think it is because of the lack of clothing....The added clothing might have something do do with it for me, but I have noticed the higher weight as well.
Mee how tall are you?
@ 115 10:15 3k, 4:45 1500
@ 130 10:303k
@ 120 9:52 3k, 4:36 1500
I'm 5'4
which leads me to believe that it's mostly differences in training and physical maturity. Increased training leads to lower weight and, generally, faster times. 'course, I might run faster 10 pounds lighter. Who knows.
d00d.... shes probally about as tall as a troll....
Last year at the start of cross i weighed in at 133 pounds. now more then a year later and after not running much due to injury i weigh in at 150. my goal is to get back into the 130's with more muscle. it kinds sucks thinking back that used to be able to eat anything an not gain a ounce. now i have to watch what i eat and drink. it sucks
I used to race triathlons in my late teens and early twenties at around 154lb. I'm 5'7" or 8", but quite stocky.
10 years later, after marriage and 5 kids I was 245lb.
In May 2003 (aged 31) I started walking to try and lose the first 7lb so that I could use our new treadmill without invalidating the warranty! There was no way I was running in public in that shape. Did a single 10min mile for the first treadmill run with the HR sky high and rising rapidly!
In June 2005 I won a local hilly XC 30K run. Pre-carbloading I was 152lb. I estimate I was close to 2:30 marathon shape that day - certainly MUCH faster than I'd ever been in my tri days.
Currently around 170lb and reasonably fit. I'm just aware that those of us who have had "issues" with food and weight over the long term probably always will. It'll be a weak area and a struggle for me.
So, certainly it can be done. Never say its too late. Never give up on the dream.
