The parents of the kids who were left off the team have no idea what damage they are doing to their kids. What kind of message does it send about the importance of kids learning to stand on their own two feet and deal with problems and disappointments. That Mommy and Daddy will always be there? And it is a shame, because if the result is a group of over indulged, narcissistic kids, it will be because the kids know of no other way to act.
And let's get real here - these parents are not arguing over the 15 points a game women - no - they are scrambling for the right for their kids to bench sitters.
I see this kind of thing all too often. As the first poster said, this is killing HS sports.
Sounds a bit like the Delaware Hayes Cross Country team. Sure it didn't go to the extent of the article but one of the assistant coaches got let go because the head coach was to much of a puss to stand up for him.
Parents have become to involved in high school sports. They need to spend their time organizing car washes and bake sales.

I wish I could bring these parents to see my niece. In high school she was a very average athelete and mommy and daddy did nothing but tell her how perfect she was, tell her she was right and everyone else was wrong. Even after she finished HS, nobody could tell their little angel what to do.
Fast forward to today, she's 30 years old can't hold a job because of constant "personality conflicts" wherever she works and weighs 250 pounds. They are paying all her bills and it's still "not her fault".
Pure Selfishness...and pridefulness. I'm better than you mentality.
Please keep us up to date on this story.
Parents who get overly involved in their child's baseball or football games are living out their own hollow dreams. They want their kids to do what they FAILED didn't do. That does not mean that kids have to compensate for their parents regrets. Let the kids play, have fun and do their thing. Didn't anyone learn anything from the mother of the wannabe Texas cheerleader? Grow up
awhile ago there was a thread here about theonion.com. for some reason 2 graphs into that story i was convinced this was an onion story, only the link kept saying 'sfgate'.
the fact that the coach can't even pick her own team is ridiculous. and that parents decided since they could not get her fired that they vowed to make her life a living hell. what's wrong with this country?
There's this girl on our HS XC team who is very slow. An all out 5K is slower than 8/Mile.
Her father went to the AD to complain that the coach wasn't giving her enough attention (keep in mind that she is an only child). He also complained that she felt bad that she wasn't doing the same workouts as the faster girls- the ones who run 21 and under for 5K. Oh, and he also thought that she should run varsity in races eventhough she is the 10th fastest of 12 girls.
She now walks around school snubbing the coach and kids on the team. Parents stay out. Thank God, when I screw up my parents tell me to suck it up.
I recently moved to Boston. It's the first and hopefully last place I've ever seen a bumper sticker that says, "we honor all of our students at Flowery Lame-o Middle School." I don't know when it became encouraged to be such a bunch of sissies, particularly in major metropolitan areas.
Personally, I'm a little bit surprised that they are fighting to have their daughers involved in such a competitive sport.
In order to keep pace with the rest of the country, I will not be allowing my children to participate in any sports that result in winners and losers, because of the negative connotation of losers. I won't even let them participate if I know they're going to win. Because if there's a winner, then someone else was a loser.
As far as running is concerned, I have hereby thrown away my watch, and will now run haphazardly such that I have no idea of how much distance I've covered. I'll also spend an unspecified period of time in isolation before and after said runs to avoid having even a moderate semblance of how long I was at it.
Also I quit my job, because it's unfair that there are people worse at what I do than I am, and they aren't allowed to have my job.
That is all.
