I don't drink a lot of soda, but I did start drinking Diet instead of regular about 3 months ago. Now I can't drink the regular stuff because it tastes bad to me.
One thing I've noticed with Diet Soda though is if I drink some, I get really hungry right after that. I'm not sure if it is mental or what, but it's like if my body drinks something sweet, it expects to get calories from it.

That's actually to be expected, pretty much exactly what you described. It's something they put in it. I don't really know the particulars but I remember in 9th grade my coach got mad at me for drinking soda, and I told him, "Well, I drink diet" and he went on to explain this to me. I no longer drink soda. I really don't think it's that detrimental to you, but if you're really serious about running it's probably not worth it.

But there's plenty of disagreement. Really, though, the amount of aspartame in diet drinks is very very very low. Be more concerned over the acidity of the drink than the artificial sweetener.
And most drinks don't do straight aspartame. The rage these days is a blend. Acesulfame-K plus saccharin plus aspartame plus sucralose (Splenda), can't remember the others. Splenda is the big one these days.
Just do sugar. It tastes way better.
yes, to save calories and cut back on sugar, I switched over to diet sodas back in college, starting with diet Dr Pepper, still the best one out there along with Mountain Dew.
Once you get used to them, a regular soda tastes like drinking pure sugar water and not so great.
I also quit using the salt shaker on my food around the same time.

pibb zero or diet cherry coke. I don't really like the taste, but drink it for the caffeine to study. I find the regular stuff to be too much between the sugar and caffeine, and I can't fall asleep after I'm done. Naturally, coffee and those energy drinks are even worse in that dept. So, diet it is. Besides, the pungent taste always revives me even when I'm really drowsy
