Why do runners on this site think that running is only running around in circles or on flat black tar? Real running begins somewhere through moutain trails beyond the 42.2km marks. Any takers?
Most of the hacks here haven't run an ultramarathon let alone trained with one of the best ultramarathoners in the world (as I have). There are some STUD ultramarathoners out there, and I dare say that what they do is definitely racing -- at least at the top end, but that's true in almost any race.
Believe it or not, but people can "race" a 5k and run it in 25 minutes. Depends on how old they are, where they are in their training. Not everyone can run a 15 minute 5k, but of course all the jokers here will tell you that they've all run 13:something for 5,000 meters. BS. That Statman Crothers list is the biggest bunch of BS probably ever produced.
Just because a 25 minute 5k is jogging to many here doesn't mean it is for everyone. I know some guys who bust their ass to run 23 minutes in a 5k. It's definitely racing for them.
