Pat's or Genos?

Neither. Tony Luke's at Front and Oregon. Not only steaks, but Roast Pork and other awesome sandwiches. Plus Tony Luke was in Invinvible.
Hmm, never been there. I'll have a bunch of Philly first-timers w/ me, so might have to opt for the 9th/Wharton/Passyunk triangle just so they can take in the whole ambience. Then I usually walk around the block to Ray's Tavern and 25 cent 7 oz. beers, which should taste mighty good after 26 miles.

"Invinvible"?
Who's in that? I've never heard of that movie? Is it a Philly thing?
If you're in the area you definatley go to Pat's. F*** Geno's. if you're looking for a good steak anywhere in the city go to Tony Luke's or Jim's Steaks on South St. And after that go to a place called euglogy in olde city where there is a beer menu long enough that you have to run a marathon to appreciate. good luck to everyone doing it. running this city is amazing.
cheers.
You can't go wrong with either pats or genos. Head down to South Street too. Jim's is good too. Hell, where in Philly is there a bad cheese steak for that matter.
My brother (no, not Sherlock) is something of a cheesesteak connoiseur (if that is possible). He insists that the big-rep places like Pats are overrated. He raves about Dallesandro's in Manayunk and has heard good things about John's Roast Pork in South Philly, which makes cheesesteaks but is only open for lunch. Been a long time since I've run Philly, but it was a great course.
Pat's and Geno's are alright, but there are a ton of little corner shops around the city that will make better Cheesesteak. Even South Jersey has a few good spots.
Lou's Deli in Freeland PA, about 2 hours north. Trust me on this, I used to go in there after catechism as a kid, it was a little hole in the wall, in the basement underneath a catering hall and usually the guy making them was drunk, but they amazing!
I have consumed many cheesesteaks in my life. I live in NJ, near Philly. You get the best steaks by being a regular customer to a local pizza joint.
Pat's is by far superior. I mean, I don't use hyperbole, but it might be the greatest food we have ever seen. I believe that Ben Franklin's quote is "Pat's and beer are proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy," but Pat's hadn't opened yet, so it was removed from the quote.
I'll be at New Deck Tavern after the race. It's on Sansom between 34th and 36th (there is no 35th) and has fantastic pub food and cheap Yuengling.
Pat's and Geno's are for the tourists... go to Tony Luke's or Chink's.
I over heard a conversation on a bus ride from Allentown to NYC(don't ask) and they said Dale and Sandras in Rocksbury was the best. I even wrote it down as a things to do alas never made the trip so it goes untested but he's description about the unctuousness of the sammitch made my mouth water.
Speaking of other cheese steaks Yocco's on Liberty in A-town and a branch on 222 out to Wescosville makes a Phillystyle grinder that rocks.
Speaking of A-town and serial crasher Swilly Joel brings
to mind his ex-wife. I was watching an infomercial(bunch a gals in leotards caught my eye) with Walker Texas Ranger and Brinkley.... when you turn to Christy for the intellectual content of a program it's time to put out the light in Motel 6.
lets go get yocco'd

Is that the place w/ 1,000s of pennies under lucite on the bar top? Went there a couple times during my Penn days.
Choices, choices . . .
I'm glad you started this, I've been thinking about the cheesesteak through my whole training.

Except that Dallesandro's is in Roxborough. But damn tasty.

Could this be me misshearing Dale and Sandra's in Rocksbury???
My dad was born and raised on the waterfront in Philadelphia. Though I never lived there myself, I have spent much time there visiting the old Polish side of the family. I had never even heard of Pat's until John Madden started hyping it up whenever he would cover an NFL game at the Vet. To be honest, that is the first and only time I'd ever seen someone put CHEEZ WHIZ on what they called a steak sandwich. We used get our steaks from a little place on Torresdale Avenue, and I can't remember the name, but they sure as hell didn't put cheez whiz on them. There are lots of little places like it in neighborhoods around Philadelphia that make good steaks. I'd look for them.
