who cares the salary...just be happy and live below your means...! bottom line
Eau Claire, maybe 40-45K...
you think you can just hop in and be a head coach?
Oh, and you'll have to teach.
UWlax just listed their head coaching salary at 30-35K. I would imagine that all the STATE schools in Wisconsin pay the same and then you would continue to get raises the longer you are in the university system. THe Minnesota system is the same as the Wisconsin system.
You will never be rich by being a track/cross country coach. If this is what you want to do, then get into the profession and get your feet wet and hope you have success. You will need to have a masters degree to get a job in Minnesota or Wisconsin coaching d2 or d3.
All of Wisco's salaries are available online, search "red book".
I'd looked around before, and saw that most of the Wisco D3 coaches made over 40K, but almost all had to teach. The UWEC coach was listed at about 32K last year.
I don't know where you saw the salary for the Lacrosse job... But it's important to note that coach has no cross country duties.
yea i know i have to do all that, thanx for whoever wrote that, im not that stupid

Don't try to become a coach! The market is saturated with candidates and making for salaries that are low. If coaches were a little harder to find, we'd get paid more to do it! Its track and field's own fault that coaches don't make jack.
I'd like to propose a law that nobody can start into the profession for 5 years. That'll change the market for me and make my life better. YOU, you stay away and get a real job. Thanks
what's your foot in the door?
how are you going to stand out?
were you a college champion?
are you going to start at a successful school as a volunteer/ga?
so many people just hang out where they are comfortable and complain they can't get a job. getting started in this stuff takes some sacrifice
Just to let you all know the UWL job also comes with some administrative and teaching duties which would up the pay to maybe 45k to 48K. Still not great, but livable in
La Crosse, WI.
what about vigilante?

If you think Division III is a glorified high school, then you must not have had very good teams. Most Division III coaches have to work twice as hard in recruiting because we don't have a checkbook to wave around at recruits, and we have the same administrative duties that most Div. I coaches have. Also most Division III coaches also have second duties within the department, such as teaching or administrative. I would love to know what Div. III institution you coached at. That would probably tell us alot.
How much did Jack Daniels make at DIII SUNY Cortland? He recruited very well and had unbelievable women's teams in the mid 90's. The few years before he retired, he could not beat Mike Woods at SUNY Geneseo, who has had a lot of success.

I used to coach at a private naia school. I was the head cross country coach and assistant track coach. My salary was 26k. I worked roughly 80 hours per week and traveled 25 weekends per year. You figure the hourly wage. I resigned and now teach in a local public school and coach high school track and cross country. I make over 40k a year and would about 30 hours less per week. I can now afford to buy a house and have time to spend with my wife and baby. Not too much time with my wife though. Nobody wants to do that.
I am a Head Coach at a small private NAIA school in the Midwest. I have interviewed at a few other schools and know about how much they pay as well as some of the other schools including NCAA DII. There is a range out there, but most of the NAIA schools in the midwest pay somewhere around 26-38,000 for head coaches. Most have to teach atleast one class per semester or have some other side work on top of the coaching. A lot of the NCAA DII coaches seem to make around 37-60,000 depending on if they teach on top of coach or how long they have been at the institution. So if you just want to coach and have no other side duties, you can expect to make atleast 3-10,000 less on your salary.
TWE:
Div 1 position! Can I get some more info. from you perhaps an email address and etc? I was at a NAIA school and was assistant for almost two years, would like to get some information from you and talk in person to where you are at etc.
Thank you.
In fact I see this post is a few months old, but if any coaches at any level have any information/tips to where to look that would be great. I have great enthusiam and high spirits and want to get into the coaching world, so any coaches out there emails and etc. would be highly appreciated.
Thank You.
Do D1 coaches receive track AND cross country salaries? or are the salaries listed for both sports combined?
