MN distance elite, coached by Chris Lundstrom. He ran a good one in Chicago a few years ago and I believe also won Grandma’s this year. Strong day overall for their team with Frisbee running well and Elena Hayday as well.
Grinder type, gutted out a tough Grandma’s victory earlier this year in hot conditions when everyone else was falling apart. Probably deserves a bigger contract considering he beat Hicks and Klecker today and he’s toiling away in a shoe store somewhere in the Minneapolis suburbs.
MN metro. Dude just plugs in and runs, would probably still run if he was the last man on earth. Watched him solo a 5k in 13:58 late summer, he looks like he’s barely working while he’s running. Plus the hair is glorious. MDE has been putting out some very solid performances!
2 time all American ncaa xc, won Grandmas this year, PR today. Someone said Chicago didn’t accept him into the elite field
Chicago didn’t even respond to him (or other similarly fast guys). Chicago elite coordinators are terrible. But Joel is someone you should have already known but he never gets publicity. He ran 2:10 and was roughly 10th-15th type of American guy going into the 2024 trials. He was 3rd at US marathon champs in 2021. He won grandmas half marathon a couple years ago and won the grandmas marathon this summer. He’s been top 10 in quite a few USATF championship races. Now he took yet another step forward with a 30 second PR and big 6th place finish at the New York marathon. Was a 2x cross country all American at South Dakota state, originally from Minnesota and training with Minnesota Distance Elite who also had Annie get 5th place and Elena Hayday 12th in the women’s marathon today.
Chris Lundstrom might be the most underrated coach in America today. The distance has taken some seemingly B and C level talents is crazy.
not sure about white bear lake high school but he's always had very good (also underrated) coaching at both the collegiate (DeHavan) and professional level (Lundstrom)

Does he even have a contract? He wore the MN distance puma singlet today and asics shoes.
Usually that would mean he might have a job on the side.

He was a stand out at Teddy Roosevelt elementary. He won the dodgeball title as a pre-K. By the time he hit first grade, he was challenging the third graders to tetherball and routinely had the endurance to outlast 100 other kids. He switched to chess in the fourth grade, but realized that tactical events weren’t for him. He just wanted to go fast. After a disappointing fourth place finish in the under 12 regional burlap sack race he almost called it quits. But the starter that year was Billy Mills who told him to never give up. And here we are.
