They just had him on the broadcast and he said "in an hour" he will announce what he's doing.
Everything now is a promotional appearance. I'm betting a sports washing Saudi world record 50k or something like that.
Did you guys see his latest Nike EK collection? The colors are very fruity and reminds me of Nike "Be True" collection. Maybe he is coming out and that´s his big announcement.
Why do we have to be so harsh? This was his send-off and he had a hell of a career
I think it’s because those that take the sport seriously see this as a circus act to make more money. I mean I don’t blame him for trying to maximize what he makes from running. But this stuff rubs the competitive purists the wrong way. To be honest there’s more respect for Bekeles DNF. At least he didn’t to jog fun run mode.
Imagine being a chill 40-43 years-old man with many lauds from a long career; you jog at a 5min/mile pace for over two hours.
People talk mad crap about you. If you had switched to the marathon 15-18 years ago, had benefitted from modern knowledge and shoes, and had used either at all or far more erythropoietin (or possibly none at all), would have cracked the two hour marathon barrier in a major marathon.
You are Eliud Kipchoge

Probably this. Non-answers from politicians and PR professionals are bad enough. Interviewer asked him about his plans and if he answered it, I didn’t hear it. So that he can announce it to a (much?) smaller audience later? I certainly don’t have to respect that. He’s clearly the best marathoner of all time. None of us are obligated to think that he’s one or more other great things (wise, open/honest, etc.).
Thinking this way isn’t un-nice, it’s simply not standard modern unjustified hero worship.

….also, it’s kinda dumb to wear a cozy sweater in a marathon and call it a tech breakthrough.
The top Kipchoge wore was pretty much the same design as the one Caleb Olson wore on his way to winning Western States in 90+ °F heat. Both are Nike sponsored.

I read Kipchoge had plans for something in Saudia Arabia, which feels very much like sports washing. But I am sure he'll get a decent pay check from the Saudis for his troubles. I hope it doesn't happen because, IMO, it tarnishes his legacy.
