Seidel was the second female and 22nd overall with a time of 1:17:09. It is a difficult, hilly high elevation course and was just a tune up for the New York Marathon
Obviously Seidel has a long way to go to reach her previous levels of fitness but it is a good result after being sidelined so long with injuries. She is aiming for the 2028 olympic trials and she has 2 years to be ready.
Of course she has to stay injury free but I admire her determination..
Named Top 5 Best Half Marathons in the US by Active. Stunning course tucked away at the foothills of the Rockies. After nearly tripling in size and selling out, new 8,000 runner cap. Epic Downtown Finish + After Party. Regist...
I hope she can stay on track. I don’t think her talent and physical fitness were the things holding her back. So hopefully she’s in a better place all round.
I do think it was a good idea for her to take some time off and go under the radar doing trail runs/races.

What does this translate to for a flat, fast,.and sea level half? 1:12?

Molly will never reach her previous levels of fitness. She is past peak and she knows it. I am sure she is able to make the Olympic trails but that doesn't mean she has a shot in getting a ticket to the Olympics.
I admire people who think that staying injury free is an easy thing to do as a former top athlete.

Altitude is worth about 1:13. Not sure how hilly the course is.

I will go one step further. I think she can be highly competitive at the olympic trials if she stays healthy. But I agree she probably will not make the team. But just being there and running a competitive race would be a big victory for her.
On strava she said that she had some pretty bad GI issues and had a pit stop mid race. I like molly and am rooting for her, but I've heard that she relapsed pretty badly into her ED and it was treated as an open secret and ignored by her coach. I hope she is getting the help she needs, and am wishing her luck for new York

In a vacuum, 1:17:09 is a disaster, but as another poster pointed out but maybe undersold a little bit it sounds from her Strava like it was a terrible GI day for her, including a pitstop. She mentioned bicarb and heavy use of gels as practice for the marathon, and sounds like it turned into a sh-tshow (pun intended).
Her opening splits were pretty damn fast. 5:18, 5:29, 5:33, with some downhill benefit. Then slowed significantly from there. I would think that Molly is experienced enough that she didn't just wildly overcook her first few miles, so it's maybe suggestive that her fitness is pretty good and the GI stuff is most of the story here.
So without knowing more, I'd say we as fans looking from the outside didn't learn all that much about whether she'll be competitive in NYC or not.

Has she ever run a fast time?
She holds the American women's NYC marathon course record :)
