The family absolutely should dispute this. However, they are also being hypocrites. For decades the family has pushed conspiracies that Pre was not intoxicated the night of the accident (despite his official blood alcohol content) and he was not at fault (the never found "other vehicle").

If they want to challenge lies about Pre's upbringing, they need to first admit that he was not perfect, made a huge error in judgement that night, and this bad decision caused his death. Until then, they have no credibility.

So if he hosts a podcast called “creative nonfiction,” he is obviously not even hiding that he is full of crap and I would NEVER trust him.

I'm no Pre cultist, by any means, but no family owes anybody anything in order to keep...hmm... Mormon Oscar De La Hoya there or anybody else exploiting their family.

Pre is my idol.

Why more Pre books/content? Everyone knows the story. Why not a Bob Kennedy biography or a Bob Schul movie FFS

I'm reading the book, but I find it hard. Pages on one race and I questioning, didn't I read all of this already in Tom Jordan's book.

I read different books on Zatopek, but those were not as equal as this on.

Bob Schul would be nice, Lindgren and Kennedy too. Is there already a good book on Bill Dellinger, comparable to the Bowerman and the Men of Oregon book?

What's the purposes of even writing a new book like this as we know Pre's "story". Is this to tell us the secret of running well is to be created out of abuse? lol.

If I were the parents / sister I would already have a libel lawsuit launched.

I am maybe overstepping by speculating at all here, but it is not uncommon for one child to be treated as the scapegoat and a focus of abuse while another child is treated as a golden child who denies abuse ever took place years later, not wanting to tarnish their image of their parents. Also not uncommon for abuse to be under the radar of the other children. Alcoholism and extreme drive to succeed can be correlated with surviving abuse. Then there was the aspect where Pre viewed racing as trying to take as much pain as possible, which is a bit interesting.

I am still inclined to believe Linda but I would need to know what exactly the author's sources were and what he was basing it on to rule out his claims completely.

I read the book and found it quite interesting. While the Jordan book was entertaining it read as just a promotion of the Prefontaine Image. This new book was a more honest, mature look at his life including his good and bad parts. Obviously the source of much of the information about his childhood came from Neta. Linda's argument that she had pictures of Steve without a shirt on prove that he was not abused is laughable. Most abuse does not leave physical scars. Of course I can see why Linda is upset because it makes her parents look very bad and basically erases her from the story.
