The speculation comes to an end today. As a former Lion from the 80's I have to say I'm not too excited about this selection.
I'll try to keep an open mind, but I think we all know this was not Harry's wish.

A very sad day indeed.
there goes the program further down the drain.
what a joke.
And now for the good news: PSU athletes will no longer have to compete in the finals!!! (gallows humor)
a slap in the face to the psu mens assistants and harry groves

Why does everyone dislike this woman?

Ask Suzy Favor Hamilton. Anyone who thinks that SFH had an automatic spot on the Olympic Team is not qualified to coach at any level.
Harry's retirement party will be more like a funeral now.
I do agree malmo the party will definitely change moods. But I am looking forward to meeting you there, and the rest of the alumni who will be in town. We will make the most of it.
I know nothing about Sullivan. Knew Groves from Malmo's days. But really, in the age of budget cuts and Title IX, isn't this just about saving money? And if that is the case, it is yet another example of track getting a short shrift. Shows just how rare emphasis on track at the college level is becoming - building mult-million dollar stadiums like those at Arkansas sure better be appreciated because that won't happen often.
A wake, perhaps?
What are the SFH details? Story please.

You're right. And it sucks that a program with a strong history like psu is getting the short stick. With the new facility at PSU i can't imagine why they wouldn't invest more in a more qualified coach. I guess it doesn't matter too much since the football team is back on the map and bringing all the revenue in

malmo, on the upside, at the Big 10 coaches meeting on Fri eve, they did a little something for HGroves and he said some nice things about his time in the Big 10.
It's unfortunate the AD couldn't wait a week to make this announcement - what's the point of rubbing salt in the wound? It would appear that the talk about Curley being the typical, politically correct bureacrat is true, although it would not necessarily differentiate him from the rest of his peer group.
Wonder where this leaves Harry's assistants? If Harry would have had a better relationship with the AD perhaps he could have laid the groundwork for his choice (whoever that might have been) to succeed him. Harry was never a politician, though, and I suppose this will be the final price he'll pay for his coarse attitude over the years.
I don't understand what is so bad about this women's coach? She seems to have good credientials ?
Not to mention this means the guys and girls will be one team, that can definitely be a good thing--more support for teamates.
oh man! i bet there are some big 10 coaches who are raising a glass tonight!~ hahaha...what a relief for those guys!
to quote Harry, " title IX is somewhere between whale shit and the bottom of the sea "
this move doesn't help.
here's the article with the whale shit quote

Not to mention awkward if Ms. Sullivan is in attendance and has read this thread.
